Job description

Do you want to support California's natural resources in the work you perform every day? You can have an impact by working collaboratively to help fulfill the Department of Fish and Wildlife's mission. The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Fish and Wildlife Technician, Limited Term out of our Eureka office in Humboldt County.
The position will aid in the management and maintenance of wildlife areas throughout the North Coast Wildlife Area Complex. Tasks will include everything from working on lands restoration projects to managing seasonal and permanent wetlands and vegetation management. Your efforts will be providing top quality habitat for migrating waterfowl and other water birds as well as many other resident wildlife and special status species. Successful completion of these tasks will require the operation and maintenance of both heavy equipment and hand tools.

Working Conditions
This position will be headquartered in Eureka, Humboldt County; work will take place in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Involves regularly working outside in inclement weather and harsh conditions. Areas include uneven terrain in various environments. Requires ability to operate and drive numerous types of heavy equipment, 4-wheel drive vehicles, ATV, wheel tractor, backhoe, and to operate various power tools. Willingness to drive to remote locations, lift heavy objects, endure ticks and mosquitos, and ability to change hours of work due to area activities. Ability to operate boats and obtain a CDFW boater safety certification, and 4x4 Quad certification. Willingness to do heavy manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, and to wear a prescribed uniform. Routine work involves unusual hours and regular scheduling on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. This position may require occasional day travel, and occasional overnight travel up to 3 days based on business need. When necessary, travel off of the Wildlife Area to aid other Programs. State owned housing is not available and is not required.
