Skilled Fish Market Pro - Night Shift (Cut & Fillet Experts Wanted!) - Newark, NJ
Job Summary:
This role involves supporting daily operations through hands-on physical tasks, assisting skilled team members, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment. We're looking for reliable, hard-working individuals with experience in seafood handling, processing, and cutting & filleting fish. If you're motivated, dependable, and ready to grow in a supportive environment, we want to hear from you!
Positions Available:
Multiple positions available - immediate start.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in the fish market industry
  • Must know how to cut and fillet fish
  • Must know the difference between fish and shellfish
  • Strong understanding of product handling, safety procedures, and workplace policies

Product Knowledge:
  • Understanding of various fish and seafood types (fresh, frozen, shellfish)
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store fresh and frozen seafood
  • Clean, fillet, cut, and prepare fish and shellfish to customer specifications
  • Set up and maintain attractive seafood displays
  • Ensure product freshness, quality, and proper rotation (FIFO)
  • Provide knowledgeable recommendations on seafood selection, preparation, and cooking
  • Operate weighing, wrapping, and labeling equipment accurately
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or spoilage
  • Assist with pricing, merchandising, and promotional displays
  • Handle customer transactions and resolve customer inquiries professionally
  • Ability to identify quality, freshness, and proper handling requirements
  • Knowledge of safe thawing, storage temperatures, and shelf-life standards

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in seafood industries, seafood products, or freezer warehouse environments

  • PC knowledge for basic computer programs
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
  • Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable lifting heavy boxes, seafood crates, and ice (up to 50 lbs)
  • Standing for long shifts and working in fast-paced conditions
  • Basic mechanical aptitude

Compensation & Benefits:
