Job description

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the supervision and training of academic peer mentors
  • Plan and deliver two academic workshops per month to program participants
  • Assist with major department eventsand peer mentor socials
  • Mentor a First in the Pack roster of students
  • Data collection, evaluation, and administrative reporting
  • Represent the First-Generation Student Center at a variety of university events, including Nevada Bound, New Student Orientation Sessions, NevadaFit, etc.
  • Create social media content for the First-Gen Center
  • Front desk reception duties as needed
  • Assist with grading for a first-year experience course as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled as a full-time graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with first-generation undergraduate students of all backgrounds
  • Strong technology, organization, programming, and evaluation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with tutoring and/or mentoring
  • Familiarity with financial aid and admissions policies
  • An academic program in Education, Counseling, Human Development, or Social Work

Schedule

20-25 Hours/ weekly

First-Generation Student Center hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
