Job Description
Bus Driver
Responsible to: Director of Transportation
Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Valid driver's license with CDL-B
  3. Excellent driving record or any equivalent combination of education and training

required to operate commercial motor vehicle ? Demonstrated skill in driving a large
bus
  1. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination with controlled substance testing

and random tests for controlled substances and alcohol
  1. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  2. Sufficient strength, agility and dexterity, visual acuity, and ocular-motor reaction time

to operate a school bus at all times, including emergency situations.
Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Safely transports students on an assigned route according to a definite schedule, which

may require driving during pre-daylight and dusk periods. Operates vehicle in
compliance with all traffic and safety laws and regulations, exhibiting defensive
driving habits and observing posted speed limits
  1. Performs all activities required to safely drive a school bus transportingCoffeeCounty

  1. Provides transportation for field trips, other sanctioned outings, athletic contests, and

extra-curricular events which may require driving after dark, as assigned

  1. Monitors orderly entering/exiting of bus. Takes appropriate safety precautions as

students are boarding and departing
  1. Inspects bus and checks fuel, oil water, lights, brakes and steering; regulates heating and

ventilating equipment provided on the bus for the comfort of passengers before
driving. Identifies needs and arranges for repairs and maintenance
  1. Immediately reports all accidents to school system and law enforcement officials.

Handles emergency situations by stabilizing situation until assistance can be
obtained. May implement emergency evacuations to include assisting students to
evacuate the bus and provide safe transport
  1. Keeps records of the number of passengers transported
  2. Cleans bus inside and out, as needed
  3. Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the department and

various regulatory agencies
  1. Displays ability to interact positively with, gain respect of, and maintain discipline over

student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled and not distractive to safe
driving
  1. Displays knowledge of child behavior and safety practices as necessary in the

completion of daily responsibilities
  1. Maintains knowledge of the local street and road system ofCoffeeCounty
  2. Ensures safe, proper, and courteous motor vehicle operating procedures
  3. Demonstrates positive customer service skills
  4. Maintains a positive, safe, and peaceful environment on the school bus
