Job description

TITLE:1st Grade Teacher at Dogwood Elementary 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Camdenton R-III School District and Dogwood Elementary School are seeking a 1st grade teacher for the 26/27 school year.  A successful candidate will be responsible for instructing and nurturing young students (typically ages 6-7), focusing on foundational academic subjects and social-emotional growth. Developing lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, assessing student progress, and collaborating with parents to ensure each child meets developmental milestones to create a culture of "Everyone Learning Every Day".

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess and maintain proper Missouri teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education.
  • Possess and maintain an Early Childhood Education (Birth - Grade 3) certificate.
  • Pass all background checks and screenings.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:  Board Policy for Staff Conduct 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer 1st grade school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons in core subjects like reading, phonics, writing, mathematics (e.g., number sense, basic addition/subtraction), science, and social studies. 
  • Nurture cooperation, sharing, and positive behavior through structured activities and modeling. 
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student learning and progress; use assessment data to plan instruction and make appropriate accommodations to meet individual student needs, including students with an IEP or 504. 
  • Provide targeted individual and small-group instruction to support, remediate, or extend learning based on student performance and identified needs.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
  • Supervise students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: 
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Building Principal and other Central Office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    

  • 9 month contract (179 days)
  • Salary Schedule - Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Base salary starts at $44,500 and commensurate with experience, up to 15 years.
  • Benefits include Board paid health insurance, paid sick leave, retirement and other.    

EVALUATIONS:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Professional Staff (teachers).
