Job description

DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, offering a comprehensive heart center, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology and cosmetic services. Sinai-Grace’s joint replacement program features a revolutionary minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgery that attracts patients from all over the country. Sinai-Grace operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties and is one of 10 hospitals in the nation to be awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to help set the standards of cardiac care for hospitals and physicians throughout the nation.

Summary Description

Responsible for the operation of the boilers, chillers, and associated equipment according to established policies and procedures, and in compliance with OEM, regulatory, and code requirements. 

  • Performs teardown and reassembling of boilers and chillers for regulatory inspections. 
  • Monitors the HVAC of the building and equipment through the use of the Johnson Controls Metasys Building Automation System. Responds to alarms as appropriate. Initiates corrective action as needed. Maintains competency in the use of the Metasys program.
  • Monitors the Notifire fire alarm panel along with the fire alarm computer, and directs Plant Operations staff to alarm locations when the fire alarm is activated. Notifies management of any trouble or alarm conditions as needed. Maintains competency in the use of the Notifire System.
  • Monitors and operates the Swisslog tube system computer. Responds to alarms as appropriate. Initiates corrective action as needed.
  • When office staff are not available, the engineer is responsible for answering the department’s phone and responding with appropriate action. If service is being asked for, the request will be entered into the work order log, radioed to the appropriate staff member, and a work order generated in the AIMS system.  
  • At management’s discretion, performs other related duties to support the function of the Plant Operations Department.

Minimum Qualifications

1.  High school diploma or equivalent.
2.  City of Detroit 2nd Class Engineers License

3.  City of Detroit 1st Class Refrigeration Operator License  

Skills Required

1.  Ability to read, write, speak English and follow oral and written instructions.
2.  Competent computer skills to operate the equipment within the Summary Description.
3.  Ability to use tools necessary to the function of the job.
4.  Knowledge of supplies, materials, parts substitutions, codes and equipment records in order to make sound decisions regarding repair work.
