Job description

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Surgeon, the Surgical First Assistant (non physician) assists in the performance of any surgical procedure, working under the surgeon's direction and delivery of patient care as a member of the surgical team, assumes appropriate responsibility for delivery of that care before, during and after surgery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

CPR

To be eligible to apply for core privileges as a SURGICAL FIRST ASSISTANT, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:


Completion of a surgical assistant program from an accredited Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs

(CAAHEP) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) surgical assisting program.

OR

Documentation of at least 250 cases as a first assistant and Supervising/Proctoring Physician attestation


AND


Must have a Surgical First Assist Certification.


Surgical Technologists in training for CSFA must complete the certification process within 18 months from the date of appointment to the

Allied Health Staff at Comanche County Memorial Hospital.
