Fireplace information

What is a fireplace?

A Fireplace job typically involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of fireplaces, including wood-burning, gas, and electric models. Professionals in this field may work with masonry, HVAC systems, and venting to ensure safe and efficient operation. They often inspect and clean chimneys, troubleshoot issues, and follow local building codes. Some roles may also involve designing custom fireplaces for homes and businesses.

What does a fireplace do?

A fireplace is a structure designed to contain a fire for heating and aesthetic purposes within a building. Traditionally, fireplaces burn wood, but modern versions may use gas or electricity. They provide warmth, create a cozy ambiance, and can serve as a focal point in a room. Fireplaces require proper installation and maintenance to ensure safety and efficiency. Some models also include features for cooking or heating water.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fireplace installer?

To thrive as a Fireplace Installer, you need expertise in carpentry, masonry, and HVAC systems, often backed by technical training or apprenticeship. Familiarity with tools such as power saws, levels, and venting systems, as well as relevant certifications like NFI (National Fireplace Institute), is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with clients and contractors set top installers apart. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant fireplace installations that satisfy customer needs and meet regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges fireplace installers and technicians face on the job, and how can they prepare for them?

Fireplace installers and technicians often encounter challenges such as working in confined spaces, dealing with outdated or non-standard building structures, and ensuring compliance with safety and building codes. Preparation includes staying current on local regulations, maintaining strong communication with homeowners and contractors, and developing problem-solving skills to address unexpected issues during installations or repairs. Working closely with a team and participating in ongoing training can help technicians adapt to new fireplace technologies and industry best practices.

Industry UsageHome heating, aesthetic installationsFire safety, preventing chimney fires

While fireplaces focus on the installation and maintenance of fireplaces themselves, chimney sweeps specialize in cleaning and inspecting chimneys and vent systems. Both roles are essential for safe and efficient heating systems, often working together but with distinct responsibilities.

How do you become a fireplace installer?

To become a fireplace installer, you typically need to complete a high school diploma or equivalent, gain experience through apprenticeships or on-the-job training, and obtain relevant certifications such as those from the National Fireplace Institute. Knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and proficiency with installation tools are essential for this trade.

Job description

Showroom Sales & Marketing Associate

North Central Insulation – Bellville, Ohio

$21.00/hour + Monthly Sales Commission | Full-Time

Are you a people person who also happens to be creative?

North Central Insulation is looking for someone who can do both.
This is a unique position combining showroom sales and marketing. Part of your time will be spent helping customers in our showrooms, learning our products, and earning commission on sales. The rest will be spent helping tell the NCI story—creating social media content, taking photos and videos, developing advertising, assisting with recruiting campaigns, and helping market our growing company.

This is not a sit-at-a-desk-all-day marketing job, and it isn't a traditional retail sales job either.

If you enjoy talking with people, have a creative side, are comfortable with social media and technology, and like the idea of having some variety in your workweek, you may be exactly who we're looking for.

What You'll Do

Showroom Sales

  • Help customers visiting or calling our showrooms
  • Learn our products and help customers find the right solutions
  • Prepare customer information and assist with sales
  • Maintain attractive, organized showroom displays
  • Earn monthly commission on qualifying showroom sales
  • Occasionally work from our Bellville, Newark, and Lewis Center showrooms as needed

Marketing

  • Create photos, videos, graphics, and written content for social media
  • Help manage NCI's Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other online presence
  • Visit NCI projects and locations to capture interesting content
  • Create flyers, advertisements, banners, recruiting materials, and other marketing pieces
  • Help promote job openings and tell the stories of our employees and company
  • Assist with website content and online business listings
  • Work with NCI leadership on advertising, promotions, and new marketing ideas

Who We're Looking For
You don't have to be a career salesperson or a professional marketing executive.
We're looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, confident, and comfortable talking with customers
  • Creative and able to recognize what makes good content
  • A strong communicator and writer
  • Comfortable with social media
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects
  • Willing to learn our products and our business
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
  • Able to travel between our Bellville, Newark, and Lewis Center locations as needed

Experience with Canva, graphic design, photography, video editing, social media marketing, or content creation is a plus—but we're also interested in talented people who have developed these skills on their own.
What We Offer

  • Starting pay of $21.00/hour
  • Monthly showroom sales commission opportunities
  • Full-time, year-round employment
  • Paid training
  • Guaranteed Sundays off
  • Short Saturday hours: 8:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
  • Paid holidays after 30 days
  • Paid Time Off after one year
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance eligibility after 90 days
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and take on additional responsibility

A Job With Some Variety
Some days you may be helping a homeowner choose a fireplace or another product in one of our showrooms. Another day you may be photographing a project, creating a social media post, working on an advertisement, or helping develop the next NCI marketing campaign.
We want someone who enjoys people and has a creative streak—and who would rather have some variety than do exactly the same thing every day.
If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply today and tell us a little about yourself and why this combination of sales and marketing interests you.
