Job description

Description
ARC is looking for a software and systems engineer to support a new and evolving product. This role is primarily focused on systems engineering with additional responsibilities in back-end software development. ARC’s core product offering employs an IoT sensing device hosted in or on an individual weapon system.  The IoT device’s data is aggregated to provide insights about weapon performance and other situation-dependent data streams for our customers. Our software stack includes Java-based microservices in AWS using modern orchestration and integration systems.  We use many off-the-shelf technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, PostgreSQL, redis, and many others. 

This position will require access to restricted information and facilities protected under U.S. laws and regulations, including the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). Please note that any offer for employment will be conditioned on any required authorization to receive access to such restricted information and facilities necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.  
 
Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. Citizenship to meet federal government security screening requirements required for this role. The successful candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and otherwise eligible to obtain access to classified information and facilities necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.


Role Responsibilities - How You Will Make an Impact
As a dual-role engineer, you will be expected to support the following responsibilities: 
  • Collaborate with product and program managers to elicit and document implied system requirements. 
  • Capture, update, and maintain current and future system and software design descriptions. 
  • Develop and implement IoT system architectures that enable varying data transport profiles including large data sets for machine learning. 
  • Define end-to-end system performance specifications including critical metrics for tracking. 
  • Incorporate non-functional constraints into system designs including bandwidth, latency, security, scalability, and reliability of the solution. 
  • Write system integration test plans and provide guidance on execution of those test plans along with considerations for increasing levels of automation of end-to-end tests. 
  • Write and maintain software requirements and user stories. 
  • Write and maintain back-end software in cloud, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises environments. 
  • Safely operate firearms platforms under supervision from trained and licensed range officers and qualified ARC personnel. Prior experience with firearms is not required. 
  • This position may require travel less than 10% of the time in support of in-person events including system testing. 

Relevant Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or similar program 
  • 3+ years of experience as a systems engineer
  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer 
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secruity Clearance
  • Experience working in a start-up environment. 
  • Experience working for a DoD or government contractor.
