Job description

Summary of Position Mission


This position collaborates closely with manufacturing and product development to identify and resolve production and quality system deficiencies, as well as overseeing the day-to-day operation of the quality department. Oversees inspecting finished firearms from outside vendors and in-house to company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in defining, developing, maintaining, and supporting various quality programs along with their performance measurements and reporting requirements
  • Conduct First Article Inspection of machined parts, castings and injected molded parts.
  • Conduct and teach problem-solving activities to address quality and process improvement opportunities
  • Develop and maintain standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation
  • Investigate product quality problems and determine root cause, gather and analyze data, and implement corrective actions to reduce or eliminate cause
  • Perform process capability studies or special studies necessary to increase control and decrease total quality costs
  • Plan and oversee the analysis, inspection, design and test of products to assure the quality of the parts and products
  • Perform quality engineering review of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and Company quality records
  • Utilizes test equipment such as Calipers, Micrometers, Rockwell Testers, Surface Plate, Optical Comparator and CMM
  • Help run and program our CMM using PC-DMIS.
  • Follow an inspection checklist and document findings for incoming inspection of received parts.
  • Inspects firearms manufactured, assembled, or repaired in the manufacturing area or by outside vendors.
  • Finds and documents any mistakes or problems associated with the items being inspected.
  • Maintains exact records of all items inspected.
  • Submits reports to the Quality Manager about quality and items inspected.
  • Completes all required paperwork promptly and accurately.
  • Explains and points out problems found to assemblers in a tactful manner for assemblers to learn how to correct their problems in the future to minimize mistakes.
  • Trains new employees in the QC process to teach them what to look for when assembling firearms.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and warehouse supervisors, supporting their quality inspection requirements.
  • Utilizes basic test equipment such as calipers, Rockwell Testers, and a surface plate.
  • Reads and follows simple blueprints and drawings with some GD&T knowledge.
  • Lead Century Arms Corrective Action Program
  • Other duties will be assigned as required.


Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering highly preferred
  • 4 years of quality supervision experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent technical background with a track-record of problem solving and process development
  • Experience in firearm production, tooling and machining highly preferred
  • General knowledge of CAD and CMM software packages
  • Experience with Master Cam, Catia V5 and Solid Works

Working Conditions


Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment and throughout a heated manufacturing and warehouse facility. Exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of light manufacturing, shipping and receiving, and normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.
