Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure a tranquil and safe environment for the Members and Employees of Vicar's Landing, through the enforcement of the policies and Procedures as established by the Director of Security and Administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain a good working rapport with Members, Guests and Personnel of this and other Departments and aid whenever possible.
  2. Identify, report, and take positive action on any safety hazard that could cause accidents, such as ground obstacles, campus lighting, exposed holes, fallen trees, etc.
  3. Monitor a two-way radio.
  4. Report any suspicious activities or a crime in progress to the St. John's County Sheriff's Department.
  5. Aid as required in emergency situations.
  6. Be familiar with the emergency procedures.
  7. Prepare all necessary reports and records connected with security and safety, to include a daily chronological duty log of the security inspection walk-through.
  8. Observe Vicar's Landing employees and areas for internal theft. Identify any trespassers on the property and report information to St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
  9. Assist in protection of life and property for Vicar's Landing.
  10. Parking: Security Officers make routine rounds and enforce parking regulations.
  11. Fire Alarm Panel-Is familiar with the Fire Alarm Panel and can operate the panel during alarms, drills, and false alarms. Is knowledgeable on resetting devices and Panel.
  12. First response for maintenance related items. Security Officers should be knowledgeable of basic operation of appliances, i.e., a/c thermometer, ice maker shutoff valve, etc. to determine if maintenance is needed.
  13. Is familiar with the Watchman's Time Clock schedule and key locations. Conducts tours in accordance with set times and is visible during this time.
  14. Proper pass down information in pass down log.
  15. Utilize the master key only conducting authorized business.
  16. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Skills, Abilities & Competencies:

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Code Of Ethics and Conduct:

The following items represent prohibited conduct:

  • Consumption of intoxicants while in uniform.
  • Making false official statements.
  • Engaging in any illegal activities on Vicar's Landing property.
  • Sleeping on duty. It is mandatory to always remain alert while on duty.
  • Divulging or discussing official department business.
  • Serving your own private interests interferes with proper performance of duty.
  • Displaying or carrying any type of weapon on one's person.
  • The use of profanity.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must maintain a current CPR certificate.
  • Must be able to assist in moving patients.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work period.
  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • May be required to perform duties in inclement weather.

General Appearance:

  • Uniform jackets and shirts to be neat and clean.

Additionally:

  • Transport members to and from the dining room during the evening meal. Using the golf cart or wheelchair in a safe manner.
  • Make a security inspection walk through of all independent living buildings while on patrol, checking all floors, using the WATCHMAN'S TIME CLOCK, in accordance with proper shift schedule.
  • Check exterior doors to ensure they are secured, and the door guard system is activated in the Health Center.
  • Deliver packages and mail to independent living membership.
  • Deliver signature mail to the independent living members. Logging in the letter or package number.
  • Checks on maintenance required items notifying the on-call maintenance duty person of any member-related equipment that needs fixing.
  • Relieve Main Desk Receptionist as needed. Operates the multi-PBX system transferring phone calls etc.
  • Make a security inspection walk though all independent living buildings.
  • Secure West and North Buildings at 2200 checking that all-appropriate lighting is turned off (except for the security lights including restrooms).
  • Secure the East building when staff leaves, checking that all-appropriate lighting is turned off.
  • Kitchen-Check all gas appliances. Checking all control devices that they are in the off position. Observe exceptions and special instructions issued by the director of food services.
  • Be alert of burnt-out lighting throughout the facility.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk hear, and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Employee must have excellent balance and be able to climb a ladder and walk around a roof. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to communicate verbally with other on the phone or in person.
