Job Title: Fire Watchman

Job Description

This role focuses on monitoring welding activities on the exterior structural framework of a building in Manhattan to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with fire safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously watch welding operations on the exterior structural framework of a building to identify and mitigate potential fire hazards.
  • Ensure that the work area remains clear of combustible materials and that appropriate fire safety measures are in place before, during, and after welding activities.
  • Monitor construction activities around welding operations to maintain a safe perimeter and prevent unsafe practices.
  • Remain on post for the duration of welding work, maintaining constant vigilance and attention to detail.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any signs of smoke, sparks, or fire, following established safety protocols.
  • Verify that all required fire safety equipment is present, accessible, and in proper working condition.
  • Communicate clearly with welders, construction personnel, and site supervisors regarding any safety concerns or observed hazards.
  • Document safety observations as required and report incidents or near-misses to site leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant fire watch, construction safety, and site-specific safety procedures at all times.
  • Support a culture of safety by promoting adherence to OSHA, SST, and other applicable regulations on site.
