Job description

In this multi-functional role, an ideal candidate will be able to provide quality customer service to internal & external clients,
underwrite new & existing business and provide superior end-to-end service in the Service Center. A Service Underwriter II
will have general expertise in underwriting profitability, production, agency relations, and customer service and leadership
skills. The ideal candidate is someone who is self-motivated with strong multi-tasking ability.
While this role is posted as a Service Underwriter II, we are open to hiring a Service Underwriter III based experience and technical expertise.
This is a remote opportunity that requires the working hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm PST.
Responsibilities:
  • Underwriting Profitability, Production, Agency Relations & Customer Service
    o Make educated decisions on claims and risk controls
    o After issuance of new policies, assist with onboarding insureds
    o General to working knowledge of new business risk analysis
    o Assist policyholders with policy changes, renewal instructions, drivers lists, certificates of insurance,
    cancellations, reinstatements, first loss reports, billing/claims/policy inquiries, replacement auto ID cards,
    coverage questions, etc. both over the phone and through written correspondence.
    o Enter accurate information onto the various computer systems from policyholder phone calls and written
    correspondence
    o Review policy change requests, renewal instructions, MVR's, Experience Mods, loss experience, Loss Control
    reports and product brochures for risk acceptability. May consult management, other underwriters, websites,
    and Best Underwriting Guide
    o Ask pertinent questions when a policyholder requests a policy change - midterm and renewal. Select critical
    information needed
    o Utilizing negotiation and sales tactics knowledgably
    o Utilize underwriting resources
    o Work to de-escalate issues that are derived/perceived from our internal/external customers
    o Use analytical tools provided to track customer interactions and provide agency's with detailed information of
    these interactions
    o Work towards developing agency partnerships by having consistent communication and potential in-person
    visits
    o Building communication with agency expectations
    o Uses attributes including planning, persuasion, strategy and other tactics efficiently
  • Leadership Responsibilities

    o Communicates successes & opportunities for improvement
    o Raises vital questions, issues, and recommends solutions where applicable
    o Gathers appropriate resources to problem solve

Qualifications:
  • Education:

    Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent work experience
    โ€ข Preferred to have insurance coursework and/or designations
    โ€ข Examples may include AINS, AU, CPCU
    โ€ข Property & Casualty License requiredExperience:

    3+ years of relevant experience
    โ€ข 3+ years of customer service experience
    โ€ข Independent agency experience is a plus

Pay Transparency Statement
UFG Insurance is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary range for Service Underwriter II is $52,000 - $68,000 annually. The base salary range for Service Underwriter III is $60,000 to $79,000 annually. The aforementioned salary ranges represent the typical range for new hires in this role. Individual pay within this range will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, internal equity, geography and market data.
