Position Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll contribute to mechanical systems design for industrial, commercial, wastewater, and water facilities. Your work will span system expansions, total replacements, and new facility construction. This person will work closely with project managers and mechanical leadership to assist with the development of design documents including engineering reports, calculations and analysis, drawings, specifications, and the engineer's opinion of probable construction costs.

Essential Job Functions:

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

  • You will lead mechanical system designs from concept phase through construction with the assistance of an EIT including the development of construction documents. 

  • Perform HVAC load calculations, energy models, life cycle cost analysis, and ventilation calculations in compliance with applicable codes and energy efficiency standards.

  • Size equipment and develop layouts for HVAC (airside and hydronic) and plumbing systems.  

  • Review and edit construction specifications using MasterSpec for each applicable project.

  • Participate in construction administration. Responsibilities include responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and handling construction submittals. Conduct construction site field observations and prepare punch lists during various stages of construction.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 to 10 years in mechanical design, specifically related to design and construction documentation for mechanical, plumbing and performance-based fire protection systems in new and existing facilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.

  • Familiarity with building codes, ASHRAE design manuals and guides, and USGBC LEED requirements, specifically for new or existing facilities.

  • Basic knowledge of building mechanical equipment is desired. Some examples include fans, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, chilled and hot water loops, boilers, motors, pumps, variable speed drives, direct digital temperature controls and building automation systems. Plumbing and/or performance fire-protection experience also desired. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  REVIT/BIM and AutoCAD experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to move about in an office environment to access files, equipment, and meet with colleagues.
  • Ability to visit active construction sites, which may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, standing for extended periods, and navigating areas with limited accessibility.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of drawings, field equipment, or related materials as needed.
  • Ability to observe details during site visits, including mechanical systems, equipment installations, and construction activities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and in writing

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Work is primarily performed in a professional office setting with standard office equipment and typical environmental conditions (e.g., climate-controlled space, moderate noise levels).

  • Periodic work is performed at construction sites, industrial facilities, or municipal infrastructure locations. These environments may involve exposure to:

  • Varying weather conditions

  • Noise, dust, or mechanical equipment

  • Uneven surfaces or confined spaces

  • Active construction activity requiring use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Travel to project sites, client meetings, or other offices may be required.

  • The role may require adherence to site-specific safety protocols and the use of PPE, such as hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, gloves, or protective footwear.
