The Environmental Health and Safety Professional provides compliance andsupport to academic, research, athletics, students, and residential programsfor the university campus and related satellite locations.

Identify risk and hazards associated with campus activities, such as academic and maintenance work, and analyze and assist personnel in controlling hazards in order to protect human health and safety

Develop, coordinate and deliver training to faculty, staff and students for environmental compliance
Maintain proficiency in topics taught through continued research and training
Maintain applicable professional and technical certifications and attend recommended training
Minimum Qualifications:
Requiresa bachelor's degree in fire administration, occupational health, occupationalsafety, environmental health, public health, or a direct related field from anaccredited institution. (Experience may substitute for directly related degreeon a 2-year experience for 1-year of education ratio - in addition to theminimum required work experience listed below).
Preferred Education: Graduate degree in fireadministration, environmental health, occupational safety, risk management, oremergency management.
Requiresa minimum of 3 year directly-related work experience in the EHS programs oractivities (preferably in academic or governmental environments) - includingoversight of fire and safety compliance and experience in one or more of thefollowing disciplines:
Emergency Management
Environmental Management
Occupational Safety and/or DOT
Certification or license required:
Valid CO driver's license
Colorado Asbestos Building Inspector or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire
OSHA 40-hr HazWoper certification or ability to obtain such within 6 months hire
Oil and Public Safety Class A & B Certification or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire
Certification/registrationis desirable in one or more of the following disciplines, but not required:
Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
REQUIRES:
Functional knowledge of common computer applications (Word processing, email, internet browsers, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, or similar) and database functions
Excellent oral and written communication skills
The position must be physically fit with the ability to be medically approved to wear a respirator -- during work activities (Also see physical requirements related to job tasks)
Demonstrated experience conducting training and/or in public speaking
Strong understanding of the operation of typical environmental monitoring instrumentation and a basic knowledge of various sampling and monitoring methodologies
Basic ability researching and interpreting applicable EHS and safety regulations
Solid understanding of occupational health and safety operations
Basic knowledge of applicable technical standards
This position will interact with students,faculty and staff and must display strong verbal communications skill and anamiable personality that are essential to success.
