Job description

Job Summary

The Fire Safety Officer I - EMT protects life and property by providing Fire & Emergency Medical Services response including, but not limited to fire suppression, emergency medical care, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire and injury prevention and educational programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

15% - Supervisory: Work is performed under the direction of a commanding officer but the individual must take initiative and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations. This position has no supervisory responsibilities, however may require giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or members of the public during emergency operations per NIMS-ICS as a resource leader or team member; May serve as Initial Incident Commander until relieved as required.

35% - Administrative: Actively conducts occupancy pre-incident plans, performs fire prevention, public education, and public relations activities while projecting a professional public image. Completes electronic forms, incident reports, and other documentation in an accurate and timely manner, as required. Maintains compliance with required OSHA Programs to include Fire Brigade Clearance, Respiratory Protection, Exposure Control Program. Maintains EMS certification and maintains medical control sponsorship/authorization.

50% - Responsible for responding to scenes of fires, disasters or other emergency incidents; protecting life and property through controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires; provides emergency medical services; responds to manmade and natural disasters. In emergency situations, performs hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time. Delivers safe medical care and treatment based on the individual needs of the patient and in accordance with medical protocols and department policies and procedures. This position will be required to work special event standby for fire and EMS operations.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or GED and experience in fire-fighting equipment maintenance, fire prevention or fire fighting.

Preferred Requirements:

Education: AA, AAS or AS; preferred area in Emergency Services, or other related field.

Experience: 1+ year of full time paid firefighter experience and/or 1+ year of full time EMT experience.

Licenses/Certifications: SC Drivers License; NFPA, IFSAC or Proboard FFI and FFII, Current NREMT &/OR SC EMT-Basic Certification; NIMS-ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800; National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training.
