Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Fire Alarm Designer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing fire alarm systems for new construction, retrofit, and upgrade projects while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of fire alarm systems and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners. NICET certification is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Design fire alarm systems for commercial and industrial projects in accordance with NFPA, IBC/OBC, local codes, and project specifications
  • Produce detailed drawings, schematics, and submittal packages using CAD software
  • Conduct site surveys to assess existing conditions and design requirements
  • Perform system calculations, including battery and voltage drop calculations
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, and field teams to ensure accurate and executable designs
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, and AHJ requirements to all designs
  • Support estimating and pre-construction efforts as needed
  • Review and QA/QC design packages to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Provide technical support throughout project lifecycle, including construction and closeout

Qualifications:
  • Experience in fire alarm system design, drafting, or related field
  • Proficiency with FireCad / AutoCAD or similar design software
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 72 and fire alarm system principles
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:
  • NICET Certification (Level III or higher strongly preferred)
  • State fire alarm designer license (if applicable)
  • Experience with multiple fire alarm platforms (e.g., Edwards, Potter, Honeywell etc.)
  • Knowledge of permitting and AHJ processes
