Job description

161 Bay Street (93021), Canada, Toronto,Toronto, Ontario,Director, Product Management

About Capital One Canada

For 30 years, we've been on a mission to change banking for good and build relationships by making credit accessible, simple, intuitive and rewarding. We want to help Canadians succeed with credit, because we believe in people - in our customers, in our associates, and in talent like you!

About the Team

Product Management Directors are strategic thinkers and dedicated problem-solvers who lead product teams to drive step changes in high value outcomes for our organization and our customers. You will re-imagine how people interact with money across a portfolio of products creating experiences that simplify and enhance our customers' lives while delivering measurable business impact.

We are building, not only for our customers but also for our teams, as we develop our talent, mature our management systems, and lead from the front on culture as we embrace the possibilities with AI. We believe that being a world class fintech product leader requires embracing the challenge of goal setting and measurement across multiple time horizons and dimensions (growth, customer experience, compliance risk, fraud risk, operational risk, credit risk, etc.).

Examples of how Directors of Product and their teams create customer value that directly accelerates our growth at Capital One:

  • Defining the strategy for our application funnel to maximize conversion and optimize acquisition across our credit card products

  • Setting strategy for and delivering on capabilities and platforms (e.g. mobile app, messaging, experimentation, data) to enable growth and experience teams to move with speed, confidence and quality

  • Overseeing a portfolio of products dedicated to deepening customer engagement, such as launching and optimizing credit monitoring tools to drive engagement and long-term financial health

If you want to take a big swing at giving Canadians the banking they deserve, this opportunity is for you.

Your Responsibilities:

As a Director of Product, you'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in five key areas,

  • Human Centered

    • You'll define the target customer experience and an environment where customer-first thinking is a part of the team's DNA

    • You'll coach your team to leverage their understanding of the end-to-end customer experience to ground and build product vision and strategy

  • Business Focused

    • You'll define key success metrics and measurable outcomes that matter for your domain, focusing on key growth levers

    • You'll prioritize work to achieve those outcomes across multiple teams to maximize growth and impact

  • Technology Driven

    • You'll explore domain relevant technology to support discovery and apply learnings to push the boundaries of what you think is possible

    • You'll foster an active partnership with technology and design partners to collectively define destination state and go after shared objectives

  • Integrated Problem Solving

    • You'll develop and evangelize a compelling product vision that aligns with the broader business goals

    • You'll define and execute a strategic direction for your portfolio of experiences and capabilities based on business objectives, user needs, and investment appetite.

    • You'll nurture a culture of reverence for risk management and understanding of the regulatory landscape, while balancing speed to market and need to experiment and learn.

  • Transformational Leadership

    • You will be a dedicated people leader, responsible for the performance, coaching, and career development of a team of Product Managers.

    • You'll lead cross functional teams, including product management, design, engineering and operations through the delivery of work against the roadmap.

    • You'll operate as a strategic connector across the enterprise, partnering with teams in Canada and the US to identify leverage and enable your team to go after them.

    • You'll contribute to the team culture and ongoing improvement of the product management practices across Capital One Canada by investing in systems, methodologies, and tools.

    • You'll build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, customers, and partners.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 10+ years of Product Management experience

  • At least 7+ years of people leadership experience, specifically leading Product Managers

  • Experience creating and delivering customer centric, data-driven product vision and strategy

  • A track record of delivering quantifiable results with significant business and customer impacts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial services, payments, technology or operations

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in Business, Finance, Engineering or related field

  • Strategic and detail oriented. You can operate at both the strategic and execution levels. You can zoom out to a 10,000-ft view while also diving into details when needed.

  • Intellectually curious. You ask why, you explore and you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea. You have an appetite to learn new things or new technologies and you're comfortable with ambiguity.

  • A communicator & influencer. You can communicate complex ideas clearly regardless of your audience. Your team is aligned on priorities, grounded in purpose and inspired to deliver.

  • Biased toward action. You try things and sometimes you fail, can get around roadblocks, and stay focused on your goals.

  • Passionate & customer focused. You care about growing others and bringing them together around what's possible. You get a thrill from the journey of building and shipping products, and you have a desire and ability to connect with our external or internal customers to fully understand their needs

  • A team player. You enjoy working with diverse people and driving the team toward a common goal. You have the ability to put the team before yourself and establish long-lasting relationships
