Fintech Programmer information

What is a fintech programmer?

Fintech Programmers are software developers who specialize in creating technological solutions for the financial industry. They design, build, and maintain applications related to banking, investments, payments, and other financial services, often using advanced programming languages and frameworks. These professionals work on projects such as mobile banking apps, trading platforms, blockchain technology, and financial data analysis tools. Their expertise helps financial institutions innovate, improve security, and enhance the customer experience in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

What are some unique challenges fintech programmers face when developing financial applications?

Fintech Programmers often encounter challenges related to ensuring high security and compliance with strict financial regulations while developing applications. They must design systems that can handle sensitive financial data, prevent fraud, and meet industry standards such as PCI DSS or GDPR. Additionally, integrating with legacy banking systems and third-party APIs can be complex, requiring robust error handling and real-time data processing skills. Collaboration with compliance officers, product managers, and QA testers is essential to deliver reliable, secure fintech solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fintech programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fintech Programmer, you need strong programming skills in languages like Python, Java, or C++, along with a solid understanding of financial systems and algorithms, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with financial APIs, blockchain technology, cloud platforms, and tools like SQL databases is typically required, and certifications in areas such as AWS or cybersecurity can be beneficial. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and adapting to regulatory changes. These skills ensure the secure, efficient, and innovative development of financial technology solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

Job description

Description
About Xe
Xe is a cross-border payments platform. We help SMEs and consumers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand collect, convert, hold, and send money across markets. Each year, over 300 million people use Xe for currency information and over 350,000 use us to send money overseas.
Today, we're rebuilding the platform layer behind cross-border payments for corporate and consumer clients. We're small enough that your code ships fast and your decisions matter, and Euronet Worldwide (Nasdaq: EEFT) backs us so the problems stay real-scale.
About This Role
We're hiring a Product Manager who owns a product end-to-end, from discovery and roadmap through delivery and the metrics it moves. This role is responsible for launching Xe's card product, taking it from build through go-live and early adoption. You already use AI as part of how you think, plan, prototype, and ship, and shape how the team does the same.
You'll own Xe's card product in production, define what gets built and when, and serve as the squad's product co-lead with the Team Lead. Your squad owns a slice of the platform, from the customer experience through to the services and partner integrations behind it. You partner with engineering on delivery, align with adjacent squads on cross-cutting work, and bring compliance, design, and partner constraints into the roadmap.
What You'll Do
  • Own Xe's card end to end, from launch through to scale: set the strategy and roadmap and define what gets built across the card journey on mobile and web.
  • Lead the launch itself: program setup, processor and BIN sponsor onboarding, go-live, and early adoption.
  • Discover and validate: talk to customers and partners, analyze data, and prioritize based on customer impact and card economics.
  • Lead execution across engineering, design, compliance, and card partners, iterating on what ships when and tracking outcomes against metrics.
What We're Looking For
Must-have
  • 4 to 7 years of product management in fintech, payments, or financial infrastructure.
  • Track record owning product strategy and roadmap for a complex domain.
  • Card issuing (required): hands-on product experience launching, building, or scaling a product that issues cards to customers (debit, credit, or prepaid).
  • Strong customer and partner discovery skills, with experience validating problems and prioritizing what to build.
  • Strong data and analytics skills: defining metrics, running experiments, and analyzing outcomes.
  • Strong technical fluency: APIs, data flows, and system architecture basics, enough to partner with engineering on technical decisions.
  • Comfort working across compliance, legal, design, and partner teams to ship in a regulated environment.
  • Daily use of AI tools across product work (research, analysis, documentation, and prototyping), with a clear point of view on how a product org should adopt AI.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to translate technical and business decisions across audiences.

Nice-to-have
  • Track record owning fintech, payments, or money-movement product roadmaps at scale, with measurable impact on conversion, retention, or unit economics.
  • Track record of zero-to-one product launches.
  • Experience with B2B or SME-focused fintech.
  • Experience working with banking partners or payment processors.
  • Familiarity with product analytics tools (Amplitude, Posthog, Segment, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, and knowledge of UX design best practices.
Perks & Benefits
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401K Plan with Match
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Paid Vacation / Sick Leave
  • Hybrid Work Schedule
  • Tuition Assistance
  • Growth Opportunities
  • Corporate gatherings & team bonding events
  • Plumm Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Volunteering day for a charity of your choice

XE offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The reasonable estimated pay for this role ranges from $100,000 USD to $140,000 USD. Actual compensation is based upon factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
We want Xe to be a great place to work and to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organization that encourages diversity in all respects.
Xe is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment regardless of age, national origin, race, color, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected under applicable law. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, you may contact us at [email protected] .
The position responsibilities outlined above are intended to define the general contents and requirements to perform this job. It is not to be taken as a complete statement of responsibilities or requirements. This job description does not restrict the Company's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job as needed.
