Fintech Engineer information

What is a Fintech Engineer?

A Fintech Engineer is a technology professional who designs, develops, and maintains software systems and solutions for the financial technology industry. Their work typically involves building applications and platforms for digital banking, payment processing, online lending, investment management, and other financial services. Fintech Engineers often use programming languages like Python, Java, or C++, and they must understand financial regulations, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence. They play a crucial role in making financial services more accessible, efficient, and secure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fintech Engineer?

To thrive as a Fintech Engineer, you need strong programming abilities (such as Python, Java, or C++), a solid understanding of financial systems, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with fintech platforms, blockchain technology, APIs, and certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CFA are highly beneficial. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies are vital for developing secure, innovative, and compliant financial technology solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

What are some common challenges Fintech Engineers face when integrating new technologies with legacy banking systems?

Fintech Engineers often encounter difficulties when connecting modern applications to legacy banking infrastructures, which may use outdated programming languages or lack robust APIs. These challenges require creative problem-solving, strong documentation skills, and close collaboration with IT and compliance teams to ensure security and regulatory standards are met. Successfully navigating these integrations not only improves technical proficiency but also builds valuable experience in bridging traditional finance with cutting-edge technology.

Fintech engineers typically earn between $80,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and company size. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in blockchain, cybersecurity, or data analysis can command higher salaries. Compensation may also include bonuses, stock options, and benefits.

Is fintech a high paying career?

Fintech engineers typically earn above-average salaries compared to other technology roles due to the specialized skills required, such as programming, data analysis, and knowledge of financial regulations. Job description

Job Summary:
Range is building AI-powered wealth management that actually works. They are seeking a Senior Security Engineer to ensure the safety of their members' financial lives by identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities in their systems.
Responsibilities:
• You will be the person who keeps our members' financial lives safe.
• You'll think like an attacker so we can build like defenders.
• You'll probe our AI systems, infrastructure, and applications for weaknesses before anyone else can find them.
• When you find something, you won't just write it up.
• You'll work directly with engineers to fix it.
• When you see a gap in how we detect or respond to threats, you'll close it yourself.
• You'll also help us think about what's next.
• AI introduces new attack surfaces that most security playbooks don't cover yet.
• You'll be the person figuring out what those threats actually look like for a fintech company and what we need to do about them.
• You'll build automated tools to scale what you do, contribute to how we measure security as a program, and help the whole engineering team raise their security instincts.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 6+ years of professional security engineering experience
• Deep hands-on experience with offensive security: red teaming, penetration testing, or vulnerability research
• Experience assessing cloud infrastructure security, preferably AWS (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, and similar)
• Ability to develop custom tools and automation for security testing (Python, Go, or similar)
• Experience analyzing and exploiting web application vulnerabilities
• Strong understanding of threat actor techniques, tactics, and procedures
• Ability to translate technical security findings into clear, actionable recommendations for engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred:
• Experience with AI/ML system security: training pipelines, inference systems, model architectures
• Familiarity with AI-specific attack vectors such as prompt injection, model poisoning, or data extraction
• Fintech or financial services security experience
• Experience building security metrics and reporting frameworks
• Startup experience
• Relevant certifications (OSCP, OSCE, GXPN, or similar)
Company:
Range is an AI wealthtech platform that provides wealth management and financial advisory services. Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Mclean, USA, with a team of 51-200 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
