Description

Working as a Cloud FinOps Engineer at Verisk means being part of and contributing to a large, dynamic, and innovative community. In this role you will be learning from experienced team members and developing your cloud infrastructure and FinOps expertise. You will support our customers through cost optimization initiatives while building your technical knowledge under the guidance of senior engineers.

Purpose of the role

  • Support the identification of cost optimization opportunities in the cloud under senior guidance.

  • Assist in cloud cost management and optimization initiatives.

  • Learn and support existing FinOps practices for AWS and Azure.

  • Participate in development of FinOps practices and contribute to team initiatives.

  • Support ongoing development of a self-service environment for cloud cost transparency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in research of AWS cloud service offerings to identify cost optimization opportunities.

  • Support initiatives to identify cost-saving opportunities through rightsizing, reserved instances, and workload scheduling.

  • Participate in architecture reviews with a focus on cloud best practices, learning from technical leadership across enterprise initiatives.

  • Support engineering, product, and finance teams with cloud cost information under senior engineer guidance.

  • Build knowledge of cloud pricing models and FinOps best practices.

  • Leverage the AWS CLI to retrieve metadata for cost transparency.

  • Support the Kubex product analysis and contribute insights on actionable items.

  • Assist in developing processes to identify cost transparency in AWS and Azure.

  • Assist in creating and maintaining KPIs as measures of cost optimization.

  • Support the AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR) platform in Athena and PowerBI.

  • Learn the financial side of FinOps to support an interdisciplinary approach to cloud cost optimization.

  • Participate in the ongoing development of our FinOps solution and contribute to team projects.

  • Assist with cloud cost estimation for migrations.

  • Support cloud financials reporting and cost optimization presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 2-5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure or systems support.

  • Basic understanding of CPU, memory, and performance metrics.

  • SQL experience to parse datasets from the CUR files.

  • Interest in AI and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn how they apply to cloud optimization.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

  • AWS cloud experience preferred.

  • AWS or cloud computing certifications (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner) preferred.

  • Python or other programming language experience preferred.
