Job description

Job Summary:
The Finishing Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and management of shift operations within the Finishing department. This role directs and supervises staff, organizes and delegates production jobs and tasks, and ensures work is executed efficiently and safely. The Finishing Supervisor drives continuous improvement initiatives, manages and oversees projects specific to the area, and ensures compliance with SQF standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role leads or participates in Food Safety initiatives to maintain the highest quality and safety standards across department operations.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Operations & Process Management
  • Ensure compliance with all Employee Health & Safety regulations; lead Finishing team members in identifying safety concerns and implementing safety initiatives. Support the direction of the Kalsec Employee Safety Team.
  • Lead and enforce Food Safety Programs within the assigned shift, and provide support across functional departments.
  • Manage team and shift performance by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and executing tasks to achieve departmental metrics.
  • Coordinate workflow prioritization and resource utilization for the assigned shift/department.
  • Guide and coach peers and team members in the use of Lean Manufacturing tools and problem-solving techniques to resolve production issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead or co-lead hiring, staffing, training, development, and performance management of Finishing operators, addressing personnel and performance issues per Kalsec practices, policies, and bargaining unit agreements.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide conflict resolution and counseling for team members.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years related experience as an individual contributor or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required
  • Education in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Management, Food Science/Quality Engineering, Organizational Leadership, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Direct supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with implementing Lean Manufacturing principles, problem-solving, process improvement techniques, and team facilitation for problem solving and change management.
  • Strong data analysis skills with attention to detail, able to detect trends and implement solutions for tangible results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work across shifts to manage operational performance, process improvements, and ensure consistency across departments and manufacturing shifts.

Desired
  • Minimum 4 years of direct supervisory experience in food, beverage, chemical, process, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Certifications in leadership, Lean Manufacturing, or communication.
  • Experience working multiple shifts and managing employees in a bargaining unit.
  • Proven skills in coaching, mentoring, and developing action plans.
  • Experience in training development and delivery, both on-the-job and one-on-one.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage projects, and participate in cross-functional teams.

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work an off-shift role, which may include evenings, nights, weekends, and/or extended hours based on production needs.
  • Ability to access all areas of manufacturing.
  • Occasional exposure to heat, noise, odors, heights, confined spaces, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
