Job description

Description
As a Finishing Operator at Superior Tire & Rubber Corp., you are responsible for operating and maintaining equipment that performs the final processing steps before products are shipped to the customer. This includes a variety of finishing operations such as:
  1. Tire Grooving - sipe/x-groove
  2. Tire trim/grind - load wheel, press-on, rubber grind
  3. Tire pressing - Large and small press
  4. Track pad and engineered elastomer - assembly and trim
  5. Product ID Operator - tires, wheels, sheets, seeders

You will be responsible for understanding and following safety guidelines, meeting production goals, performing routine inspections, and ensuring all finished products meet the required quality standards and specifications. All work will be performed according to SPS (Superior Production System) principles.
Essential Job Functions by Level:
Level I Finishing Operator
  • Learn and fully demonstrate competence in any finishing work cell.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools required for that cell.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Execute Daily startup checklists, cranes, grinders, and machine fluids
  • Follow daily schedule as assigned
  • Inspect parts for defects and ensure products meet quality requirements
  • Communicate issues, defects, or equipment concerns to the supervisor, team lead or senior team member.
  • Follow and execute instructions per setup sheet.
  • Inspect parts at specified intervals per the standard.
  • Record and report any discrepancies or defects to your immediate supervisor
  • Record daily part production accurately and timely in Syteline.
  • Meet daily production goals for the assigned work cell.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow the 5S principles: Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain

Level II Finishing OR Water Jet Operator
  • Demonstrated ability to rotate and work independently in at least three (3) of the five (5) finishing cells to support daily production and staffing needs.
  • Provide on-the-job training and support for Level I and Level II operators as assigned.
  • Perform duties in multi-responsibility work centers, which may include but is not limited to operation of the water jet and/or execution of required product marking and identification functions.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance, reporting issues and completing basic upkeep to ensure safe and reliable operation

Level III Finishing Operator
  • Ability to transition seamlessly between all finishing cells as needed to support daily departmental production goal
  • Execute training as necessary for Level I and Level II operators

Finishing Specialist
  • Demonstrate full competence in all work cells across the Finishing Department.
  • Train and mentor new or cross-training employees Level I - III
  • Perform production posting accurately, efficiently, and for multiple work cells as needed.
  • Retrieve, read, and interpret engineering prints and specifications.
  • Plan, stage, and schedule all production activities in your work area
  • Assist in process improvement, workflow adjustments, and problem-solving.
  • Provide quality checks and verify that products meet customer and engineering requirements.
  • Act as a resource for leads/supervisors when addressing issues, quality concerns, or production needs.
  • Serve as a role model for safety, housekeeping, and work ethics.

  • None.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • Full Time Non-Exempt 40 hours per week.
  • 1st shift 6am-2pm Monday-Friday
  • 2nd shift 2pm-10am Monday-Friday
  • 3rd shift Sunday-Thursday
  • Overtime as needed.

Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a production shop 100% of the time

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
