Job Summary 

The Intermodal Repair Authorization Representative is responsible for authorizing repair estimates on intermodal network equipment (containers, chassis, gensets) performed by external repair contractors. The role monitors and manages the commercial repair vendors compliance with company policies, maintenance costs, warranties and recalls, quality and service level agreements.  The incumbent acts as a technical resource person for terminals, in-house garages and commercial repair vendors. The position maintains and monitors fleet maintenance computer records database to meet Government regulatory and internal operation requirements. The role performs audits on safety, cost control and vendor performance. 

Main Responsibilities 

Repair Authorization and Cost Control

  • Review and approve vendor repair estimates on intermodal equipment 
  • Find cost-effective repair solutions and support the development a maintenance strategy to address key equipment failures  

Operational and Service Excellence

  • Improve repair-turn-times for network equipment repairs and minimize bad order equipment rates 
  • Support business fluidity with regards to emergency road service events working with CN customers, CNTL and service delivery teams 
  • Support the development and optimize standard operating procedures introducing efficiency to reduce repair-turn-times, maximizing productivity rates with resource constraints, and the associated administrative items    
  • Identify and support reliability improvements on equipment  

Delivering Safely and Responsibly

  • Monitor and manage repair vendor performance with regards to quality and safety 
  • Ensure proper reporting of equipment failures, associated investigations with subject matter experts and adequate corrections to mitigate similar events 
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations on equipment and be current in best practices for safety 
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and laws  

Working Conditions 

The role has standard working conditions in a call-center based environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary. 

Requirements 

Experience 

  • Minimum 5 years of Truck or Trailer , Material Handling or Intermodal Industry experience  
  • Experience as a Journey Automotive Truck and Trailer or Heavy Duty Mechanic 
  • Call centre experience linked to maintenance and aftermarket support* 
  • Strong background in fleet maintenance of intermodal equipment (containers, chassis, heaters, reefers, gensets)* 

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset 

Education/Certification/Designation 

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) 
  • Journey Automotive, Truck and Trailer or Heavy Duty Mechanic licence

  • Strong knowledge of the American Association of Railroads (AAR) guidelines and standards*
