Operations Manager, ATS Logistics

The Operations Manager serves as a key leader within ATS Logistics, responsible for driving profitable growth, operational excellence, and strategic execution across assigned business segments. This position has direct accountability for revenue growth, gross margin performance, operating expenses, customer satisfaction, and overall financial results.

The Operations Manager develops and executes business strategies that maximize profitability, improve operational efficiency, strengthen customer and carrier partnerships, and support long-term organizational growth. Working closely with Sales, Customer Service, Pricing, and Executive Leadership, this role leads high-performing teams while ensuring the delivery of innovative transportation solutions and exceptional service.

This position exercises broad leadership responsibility over personnel, operational processes, financial performance, business development support, carrier strategy, and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve company objectives and create sustainable competitive advantages.


Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Business Growth
  • Lead all operational activities for assigned ATS Logistics divisions, ensuring alignment with company vision, strategic priorities, and growth objectives.
  • Develop and execute annual business plans, operational strategies, and performance initiatives designed to increase revenue, improve margins, and maximize profitability.
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Service, and Executive Leadership to identify new business opportunities, strengthen customer relationships, and expand market share.
  • Establish and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding resource allocation, operational improvements, capacity planning, and market opportunities.
Financial & P&L Management
  • Maintain full profit and loss responsibility for assigned operations.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor operating budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
  • Drive revenue growth through effective pricing support, carrier utilization strategies, capacity management, and operational efficiencies.
  • Analyze financial, operational, and market data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure effective cost management while maintaining exceptional service quality and customer satisfaction.
Operational Excellence
  • Direct transportation and logistics operations to ensure efficient execution, superior service levels, and achievement of financial objectives.
  • Continuously evaluate operational processes and implement improvements that enhance productivity, quality, scalability, and profitability.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain operational policies, procedures, and best practices across assigned teams.
  • Oversee carrier procurement, carrier utilization, load board management, and transportation execution strategies to optimize margin performance.
  • Manage contract compliance, operational risk, claims resolution, and service recovery efforts.
  • Leverage technology and data analytics to improve operational effectiveness and decision-making.
Customer & Carrier Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key customers, carriers, and business partners.
  • Collaborate on customer pricing initiatives, RFQs, RFPs, contract negotiations, and transportation solution design.
  • Ensure service commitments are consistently met while proactively addressing customer concerns and opportunities.
  • Promote customer retention and growth through exceptional operational execution and relationship management.
  • Foster strong carrier partnerships that support service excellence, capacity availability, and sustainable financial performance.
Talent Leadership & People Development
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop operations personnel to achieve individual and organizational performance objectives.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability measures for assigned teams.
  • Direct workforce planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, training, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.
  • Manage employee performance, recognition programs, corrective actions, and career advancement opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of engagement, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure alignment with ATS values, leadership competencies, and organizational priorities.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Champion operational innovation, process optimization, and technology adoption initiatives.

  • Represent ATS Logistics professionally with customers, carriers, vendors, and industry partners.

QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive transportation, logistics, brokerage, supply chain, or operations management experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of leadership experience managing teams and operational performance.
  • Demonstrated success managing financial performance, budgets, revenue growth, gross margin improvement, and operational profitability.
  • Strong understanding of transportation operations, carrier management, pricing strategies, and logistics processes.
  • Proven ability to lead operational improvements, business transformation initiatives, and organizational change.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building capabilities with customers, employees, and executive leadership.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, transportation management systems (TMS), and operational analytics tools.
Preferred
  • Experience managing multi-functional logistics, brokerage, or transportation operations.
  • Experience supporting sales growth initiatives and strategic customer development.
  • Advanced knowledge of transportation markets, carrier procurement, and operational analytics.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out leadership and management responsibilities in accordance with ATS policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, coaching, mentoring, performance management, employee development, workforce planning, recognition, disciplinary action, and succession planning.

Compensation
  • Base Salary Range: $50,000-$75,000annually, depending on qualifications, relevant experience, leadership scope, business impact, and geographic market factors.
  • Annual Incentive Opportunity: Eligible for performance-based incentive compensation tied to individual, team, operational, revenue, margin, and company performance.
