Job description

Position Title: Staff Accountant
Term of Employment:  12 Month Position
Location:  Administration Building      
Position Summary:  The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the Erie School District by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports, and general ledger activity. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information in accordance with internal policies and external regulations. The Staff Accountant will assist with general ledger reconciliation and support departments across the District with financial and accounting-related tasks.
Salary:   $55,000             
Reports to:  Chief Financial Officer
Education:  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
 













  • Minimum of 24 years of experience in accounting or finance; experience in public sector or school district preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with government/school district accounting a plus.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Prepare, record, and reconcile general ledger journal entries.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial processes.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports for internal use and external stakeholders.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Continued:
 

  • Assist in monitoring budgets and expenditures.
  • Coordinate with departments to resolve accounting issues and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Provide accounting analysis and related support to external partners, school departments, and administration staff as needed.
  • Assist with the annual audit by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Maintain organized records in accordance with district policy and audit standards.
  • Collaborate with other members of the finance team to identify opportunities for improved processes and controls.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO.

Work Environment:   School and office with potential need to travel among schools, and various locations within the City of Erie.  Occasional travel to relevant professional conferences and meetings outside of the District.
