Job description


FINANCIAL OFFICER I

University of Alabama at Birmingham 

This position will serve a key role in the Infectious Diseases STD Research Program financial management team. Under the direct supervision of the Manager-Clinical Research Administration, this position will assist with daily administrative and financial support functions for multiple faculty and multiple federal and industry sponsored research projects. This position will use knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures specific to accounting at UAB. This position will also assure proper accounting for state, federal grant, industry contract, and general ledger accounts.

General Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing fiscal and budgetary services to an assigned unit.

  • Uses knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures specific to accounting, financial analysis and budgetary processes.

  • Manages assigned departmental accounts and provides ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions.

  • Assures proper accounting for state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts as assigned.

  • Provides analysis of gross expenditures and makes recommendations for maintaining fiscal stability.

  • Assists in developing and administering budgets.

  • May establish and maintain financial management databases and systems which conform to standard accounting practices.

  • Monitors adherence to financial policy and procedure.

  • Develops and provides financial statements and reports to upper management on regular or requested basis.

  • May supervise departmental accounting operations and activities which could include approval and processing of disbursement and internal requisitions.

  • Interacts with vendors and complies with UAB bid policy and procedures.

  • May make decisions regarding the use of financial resources.

  • Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and appropriate University personnel and coordinates integration with University accounting system.

  • May prepare and/or supervise processing of departmental personnel action forms and as well as assume some payroll duties.

  • Acts as liaison with appropriate University financial staff.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist clinical research administration manager with fiscal responsibilities, including reconciliation of budgets and accounts and managing service center accounts payables and receivables.

  • Independently oversee STD Program clinical trial operating account (CTOA) and process monthly salary reclasses to apply effort to federal and industry projects according to compliance requirements.

  • Independently serve as Pcard proxy for multiple STD Program Pcards, ensuring proper expense accounting for federal grants and contracts.

  • Serve as Campus Time and Attendance Editor/Manager for STD Program.

  • Process departmental personnel action forms for STD Program staff.

  • Funding source/salary reclassifications

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $43,890- $57,000

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required.

  • Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
