Mid-Level Finance Associate (LSTA Trading/LMA & Structured Finance)

The Mid-Level Finance Associate position focuses on supporting sophisticated financing transactions within the Fixed Income practice at Piper Sandler. Candidates should possess 3-5 years of legal experience in syndicated lending and structured finance. Strong drafting skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment are essential.

We are currently looking for a Mid-Level Finance Associate to join our Legal team in New York, NY.

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented Mid-Level Finance Associate to join our growing Fixed Income practice. This role is ideal for an attorney who has a strong grasp of syndicated lending documentation and is looking to expand their expertise into structured finance. You will work closely with partners and senior counsel on sophisticated financing transactions, gaining significant handsโ€‘on experience in a collaborative, fastโ€‘paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate primary and ancillary finance documents, including credit agreements, security agreements, and intercreditor agreements, utilizing both LSTA trading documentation and LMA frameworks as well as bespoke documentation for esoteric transactions.
  • Assist in the execution of structured finance transactions, including warehouse facilities, assetโ€‘based lending, and securitizationโ€‘related matters.
  • Work effectively within deal teams, coordinating with internal stakeholders and outside counsel to ensure seamless transaction closings.
  • Participate in client calls and meetings, providing support to senior team members and responding to client requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in the firmโ€™s training programs and take ownership of discrete workstreams to develop your skills toward seniorโ€‘level responsibilities.
  • Monitor relevant regulatory and legislative changes and requirements.
  • Work with internal clients on special projects as requested.
  • Manage outside counsel and outside legal expenses.
  • Assist with thirdโ€‘party matters and ancillary litigation matters.
Qualifications
  • 3โ€“5 years of experience as an attorney at a reputable law firm or financial institution.
  • Solid working knowledge of LSTA trading and/or LMA syndicated loan documentation.
  • Exposure to finance, banking, or interestโ€‘structured finance (e.g., assetโ€‘backed facilities, CLOs, or complex collateral structures).
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the New York State Bar.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent drafting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet tight deadlines.
  • A proactive, teamโ€‘oriented mindset with a desire to learn and take on increasing responsibility.
  • Candidates must be selfโ€‘motivated, detailโ€‘oriented problemโ€‘solvers with high work standards, excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills, and a high level of discretion, maturity, and ethical integrity.
  • Candidates must be able to work well both with a team and independently under limited supervision, prioritize, meet deadlines, and be flexible to adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Candidates must be willing to work overtime as workload requires.
  • Large law firm or investment bank experience strongly preferred.
  • You must be authorized to work in the United States on a fullโ€‘time basis without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future. For this role, we cannot offer employment to Fโ€‘1 (student) visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a fullโ€‘time basis.
