Job Title: Financial Analyst (Product Financial Planning & Analysis)

Job Description

This contract Financial Analyst role focuses on product financial planning and analysis for a large division, providing critical support as a temporary backfill during a leave of absence. The analyst leads analysis, reporting, and planning activities, with a strong emphasis on evaluating new products, building business cases, and forecasting financial performance. The position requires a mid to senior-level finance professional who can quickly step in, work independently, and deliver accurate, insightful financial guidance with minimal training.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial analysis, reporting, and planning activities for a large division, with a focus on Product Financial Planning & Analysis.
  • Perform technical analysis to determine present and future business and financial results within a department outside of Finance.
  • Gather, analyze, and prepare data to support business plans, trended future requirements, and operating forecasts.
  • Build and review business cases for new products, including evaluating development and launch costs and projecting revenue and profitability (for example, assessing whether a product costing several million to develop can generate significantly higher returns within a defined period).
  • Use predictive modeling, statistics, trend analysis, and other data analysis techniques to identify, collect, and explore the right data from internal and external sources.
  • Develop data-driven recommendations to improve business performance, profitability, and overall financial outcomes.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the division to understand financial needs, clarify assumptions, and ensure alignment on business case inputs and outputs.
  • Work as an individual contributor, managing priorities and deliverables to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Operate with minimal supervision, quickly ramping up on existing processes and tools to provide immediate value.
  • Participate in interviews and discussions with the broader team as needed during the assignment to align on expectations and outcomes.

Essential Skills

  • Proven mid to senior-level experience in Finance, with a strong background in financial analysis, reporting, and planning.
  • Hands-on experience in Product Financial Planning & Analysis, including building and reviewing financial business cases for new products.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical financial analysis to assess present and future business results and trends.
  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and summarizing financial data to support business plans, future requirements, and operating forecasts.
  • Proficiency in using predictive modeling, statistics, and trend analysis techniques to derive insights from internal and external data sources.
  • Strong capability to make data-driven recommendations aimed at improving business performance and profitability.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle ERP systems, including using Oracle to extract, manage, and analyze financial data.
  • Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Project Server.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with department heads and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills for preparing reports, presentations, and executive-level summaries.
  • Ability to work independently as an individual contributor and also contribute effectively within a team environment.
  • Capacity to hit the ground running with minimal training, quickly understanding existing processes and tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large divisional operations or corporate environments with complex product portfolios.
  • background in strategic portfolio management or similar functions involving evaluation of multiple products and initiatives.
  • Familiarity with preparing financial materials for executive meetings and senior leadership reviews.
  • Comfort working in a contract role with defined assignment length and potential for extension.
