Accounting Associate
About the Role
SMArtX is seeking an Accounting Associate to join our Accounting team in West Palm Beach. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable owning day-to-day accounting activities.
The Accounting Associate will support key financial operations, including reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable activities, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and audit support. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with large amounts of financial data while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Experienced bookkeepers are strongly encouraged to apply, including candidates whose professional experience may substitute for some of the educational qualifications listed below.
Responsibilities
  • Own bank and credit card reconciliations from start to finish.
  • Prepare and manage revenue and expense invoices, bills, and payment processing.
  • Maintain and analyze General Ledger accounts with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Manage reconciliation workflows and independently research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Support month-end and other periodic accounting activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audits and serve as a key resource for documentation and record requests.
  • Use Microsoft Excel and other financial tools to analyze large datasets, improve reporting accuracy, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with internal departments to respond to finance- and accounting-related questions and requests.
  • Assist with additional accounting projects and responsibilities as assigned.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of relevant accounting, bookkeeping, or similar financial operations experience.
  • Experienced bookkeepers without a four-year accounting degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong working knowledge of General Ledger accounting and reconciliation processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets and QuickBooks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with high-volume financial data while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • CPA candidacy or progress toward CPA licensure is a plus.
