Financial Accounting Assistant information

What is a financial accounting assistant?

Financial Accounting Assistants are support professionals who help manage and maintain financial records within an organization. Their duties typically include processing invoices, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and assisting with audits. They work closely with accountants and other finance staff to ensure accurate and timely financial data entry and compliance with relevant regulations. This role requires attention to detail, proficiency with accounting software, and an understanding of basic accounting principles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a financial accounting assistant?

To thrive as a Financial Accounting Assistant, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and typically an associate's degree in accounting or a related field. Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and ERP systems is commonly required. Strong organizational skills, reliability, and effective communication help you excel in supporting senior accountants and collaborating with team members. These abilities ensure accurate financial records, smooth workflow, and compliance with financial regulations.

What are some common challenges financial accounting assistants face when managing multiple deadlines?

Financial Accounting Assistants often juggle various tasks such as invoice processing, data entry, and account reconciliations, all with tight deadlines. A common challenge is prioritizing work during busy periods like month-end or fiscal year-end, which requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Effective communication with team members and proactively seeking clarification on priorities can help manage workload and ensure accuracy. Many assistants find that developing a solid workflow and utilizing accounting software efficiently can significantly reduce stress and errors.

Finance Manager / Assistant Vice President - Home Equity Strategic Finance & Portfolio Analytics

Position Summary

The Finance Manager / Assistant Vice President serves as the lead finance partner helping develop a new originate-to-sell platform supporting Home Equity growth initiatives, off balance-sheet funding, secondary market execution, and portfolio optimization strategies. This role is responsible for evaluating the financial performance of Home Equity production across both balance sheet and distribution channels, developing transaction and profitability models, supporting capital allocation decisions, and delivering executive insights that influence business strategy.

The position works closely with Home Equity leadership, Capital Markets, Treasury, Risk, and Operations to evaluate product economics, funding strategies, loan sale opportunities, servicing economics, balance sheet impacts, and long-term profitability.

The ideal candidate combines strong financial modeling capabilities, originate-to-sell lending experience, banking and consumer lending knowledge, and the ability to navigate complex cross-functional initiatives. This individual will translate production trends, capital considerations, accounting implications, and market opportunities into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.

  • Analyze gain-on-sale economics, servicing economics, fee revenue streams, retained interests, and ongoing portfolio profitability.
  • Assess tradeoffs between holding assets on balance sheet versus distributing assets through secondary market channels.
  • Support business case development for new products, customer segments, pricing strategies, and growth initiatives.
  • Partner with Capital Markets to evaluate investor economics, transaction pricing, execution assumptions, and market conditions.

Portfolio & Profitability Analytics

  • Evaluate return on capital, economic profit, and balance sheet optimization opportunities.
  • Evaluate portfolio production assumptions, funding forecasts, pricing impacts, and balance sheet growth opportunities.
  • Provide recommendations regarding changes in volume, pricing, profitability, and portfolio strategy.

Executive Reporting & Strategic Decision Support

  • Produce executive-level reports, scorecards, dashboards, and management presentations.
  • Deliver daily, monthly, and strategic reporting related to Home Equity volume, profitability, market share, production performance, and forecast variance.

Data Management & Business Intelligence

  • Lead development and maintenance of reporting processes, forecasting tools, financial models, Tableau dashboards, and Essbase-based reporting.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across reporting platforms and forecasting systems.
  • Create and maintain documented procedures supporting business continuity and process governance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or related discipline.
  • Progressive experience in financial planning and analysis in Consumer Lending, Home Equity, Mortgage finance or capital markets, or related analytical functions.
  • Advanced financial modeling and forecasting expertise.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with reporting and analytics platforms.
  • Experience presenting financial findings to senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, CFA, CPA, or other advanced financial designation.
  • Experience with Essbase, Tableau, Dodeca, SQL-based reporting, and financial planning systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Home Equity / Mortgage origination, servicing, secondary marketing, and portfolio economics.

Hours & Work Schedule
