PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Vice President of Finance, in close partnership with the CEO, guides the oversight and strategic performance of the financial aspects of the organization. The Vice President of Finance is responsible for planning, direction, coordination, and oversight of financial operations within their own department. Agency-wide, this position strategizes in close collaboration across agency departments to ensure development and implementation of efficient and cost-effective strategies and systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. This position provides direct supervision. Additionally, this role will implement the YWCA's Mission, Purpose and One Imperative.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s degree in Business Administration or other industry-related field required. CPA credentials highly desirable. (The employer reserves the right to consider commensurate experience.)


2. A minimum of ten years of industry related experience, including five years in upper management and two years in a nonprofit setting, is required.


3. Must pass criminal, child abuse and neglect, and sex offender background checks.


4. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software packages, with demonstrated high-level fluency in financial accounting systems (Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred) and broader technology solutions within finance operations.


5. Knowledgeand understanding of the federal Uniform Guidance (CFR 2, Part 200).


6. Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.


7. Understandingofcost accounting and fund accounting, including net asset classification.


8. Demonstrated high-level fluency in financial accounting systems (Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred) and broader technology solutions within finance operations.


9. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.


10. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.


11. Ability to develop rapport with people of all levels in the organization. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management-level staff in the department.


• Oversees the quality, accuracy and timeliness of department activities and products.


• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.


• Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Prepares Association budget in collaboration with Directors and staff. Implement approved budgets with regular analysis and reporting of performance, variance trends, and forecasting,


• Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization’s financial operations.


• Meets weekly with the CEO to ensure strong partnership and alignment.


• Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet organization’s goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.


• Forecasts financial outlook and participates in proactive strategies for long-term financial health.


• Collaborates with other programs and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.


• Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.


• Ensures that departmental decisions and project plans such as those for staffing, development, organization, material efficiency, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision.


• Establishes, communicates, and implements finance-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.


• Acts in lead role in the facilitation of the Association’s annual financial audit, audit of federal awards and Form 990 preparation, as well as other financial review activities. Acts as liaison for the Association with audit and CPA contractors; ensure final implementation of recommendations, as approved by the Association. Achieves and maintains audit reports free of findings or material weakness.


• Reviews and approves cost‑control reports, cost estimates, and staffing requirements for projects.


• Establishes and administers organizational budgeting and forecasting activities.


• Provides oversight and strategy related to financial aspects of funding proposals and awards.


• Provides final oversight, analysis and interpretation of required financial reporting.


• Provides oversight and leadership to all financial audits, reviews and compliance monitoring. Ensures high standards for financial integrity and quality are maintained and reflected in external monitoring and reporting.


• Ensure financial records reconcile with those across departments, including Development, and that financial targets are clear and agreed upon with agency colleagues.


• Develops, maintains and administers organization’s accounting systems and controls. Responsible for integrity of system and outputs and for monitoring of all internal control mechanisms.


• Present periodic performance reports and metrics to the CEO, other leadership, committees and Board of Directors.


• Provides oversight and leadership for capital campaign initiatives.


• Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in nonprofit financial management.


• Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided.


• Acts as primary finance liaison to CEO, Board of Directors and Committees. Attends Board of Director and committee meetings as required.

• Codifies and shares anti‑racist, feminist, and trauma‑responsive considerations and strategies in finance


• Fosters a culture of psychological safety, belonging, and curiosity within the finance department, within the executive leadership team, and across the agency.

GENERAL

• Assists with related special projects as required.


• Complies with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse, elder abuse, suicide and homicide.


• Safeguards confidential information gained as a result of job.


• As a YWCA employee, projects a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community and the Association.


• Works cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff, volunteers, contractors and vendors.


• Participates in local, state and national professional networks as required.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.
