They work closely with accountants and finance managers to ensure accuracy and compliance in financial transactions. Finance Assistants play a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of an organization's finance department.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a finance assistant?

  • Provide clear, actionable financial insights to ownership and senior leadership.
  • Manage ownership reporting and respond effectively to financial requests and expectations.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Support system implementation, process improvements, and technology initiatives.
  • Lead, develop, and support a two-person finance team.
  • Collaborate with operations, food & beverage, sales, and other departments to achieve financial goals.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and hotel leadership team.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Previous experience in a Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance, Controller, or similar hotel finance leadership role preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hotel accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Experience working with decentralized accounting processes and property-level financial operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with hotel ownership and senior leadership and communicate financial performance clearly.
  • Strong systems and technology experience, with the ability to lead or support financial system implementations and process improvements.
  • Experience with Opera Cloud, Toast, Workday, ProfitSword, or similar hospitality technology preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach in a fast-paced hotel environment.
