Job description

Keck School of Medicine USC, Finance Department

The USC Keck School of Medicine Finance Department is seeking a Financial Analyst II position. Working under the supervision of the Associate Finance Director, the Financial Analyst II will collaborate closely with Keck School finance staff and department/division leaders to support the budgeting and financial reporting needs of the Keck School of Medicine.

The Financial Analyst II is responsible for performing complex financial reporting and analyses to assist the organization in business and financial short- and long-term planning. Assignments are either highly specialized requiring advanced knowledge of a particular financial area, or analyses may be more general requiri,ng a thorough knowledge of a broader range of financial activities.

The successful candidate will be motivated, proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented. The position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to be decisive and adaptable.

Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates, organizes and completes strategic and complex projects of a financial or business nature requiring identification and extraction of data, evaluation, interpretation, analysts and summation of findings. Presents results formally to senior management.

  • Produces regular and ad-hoc financial and operating reports. Evaluates and analyzes reports and data. Develops conclusions and recommendations and communicates orally or in writing to management.

  • Monitors financial operations for a large operating area of the university or for a significant financial activity. Identifies problems or trends and evaluates for solutions. Seeks resolution or brings to the attention of senior management for consideration.

  • Reviews existing accounting, reporting and data management systems and methods for adequacy. Contributes to the development and/or modification of financial systems and applications to enhance reporting and information capabilities.

  • Provides internal financial consulting services and advises on complex or technical financial issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field

  • Minimum three years of financial reporting or project management experience

  • Expert knowledge of financial analysis and reporting

  • Knowledge of computer simulation and forecasting techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree, preferably MBA

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in financial reporting or project management

  • Experience with Workday Financial System

  • Advanced to expert Excel skills

  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills

  • High level of integrity and professionalism in maintaining confidentiality

  • Experience in a complex academic medical center or healthcare environment preferred

This position is hybrid on-site and employee must report to work at the USC Health Science Campus in Los Angeles, CA when scheduled. Work hours and on-site days may be subject to change depending on business needs.

The annual budgeted salary range for this position is$95,000 - $105,000 When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Business education or closely related field. Experience in financial analysis and reporting with knowledge of computer simulation and forecasting techniques.
