Finance Advisory information

What is finance advisory?

Finance advisory refers to the professional service of offering expert guidance on financial matters to individuals, businesses, or organizations. Advisors help clients manage their finances, plan investments, analyze risks, and make informed decisions to achieve financial goals. This can include services such as budgeting, retirement planning, tax strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and wealth management. Finance advisory professionals often work for consulting firms, banks, or as independent advisors. Their objective is to help clients optimize their financial health and navigate complex financial situations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a finance advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Finance Advisor, you need a strong understanding of financial planning, investment strategies, and regulatory compliance, usually supported by a relevant degree and certifications such as CFP or CFA. Proficiency with financial modeling software, portfolio management systems, and CRM tools is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, ethical judgment, and the ability to communicate complex information simply distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure clients receive tailored advice, build lasting trust, and achieve their financial goals in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in finance advisory, and how can they be managed effectively?

Professionals in Finance Advisory often encounter challenges such as staying updated with ever-changing regulations, balancing multiple client priorities, and communicating complex financial concepts in a clear, actionable way. To manage these effectively, strong organizational skills, ongoing professional development, and proactive communication are essential. Collaborating closely with both clients and internal teams also helps ensure recommendations are tailored, compliant, and actionable, fostering trust and long-term client relationships.

Finance Advisory focuses on providing strategic financial advice to clients, helping them optimize financial decisions. Financial Analysts primarily analyze financial data to support investment and business decisions. While both roles require strong financial knowledge and certifications, their work environments and objectives differ significantly.

Do finance advisors get paid well?

Finance advisors typically earn competitive salaries that vary based on experience, location, and client base. Many advisors also earn commissions or bonuses, which can significantly increase total compensation. Certification such as the CFP can enhance earning potential in this field.

Is a finance advisory a good career?

A career in finance advisory involves providing clients with financial planning, investment, and risk management advice, often requiring strong analytical skills and certifications such as the CFP or CFA. It can be a rewarding field with opportunities for advancement, but it also demands long hours and continuous learning to stay current with market trends and regulations.

Job description

Finance Business Partner – Strategic Growth Opportunity

About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, entrepreneurial organization with an outstanding reputation in its industry and an ambitious vision for the future. Backed by a strong leadership team and a solid financial foundation, the company continues to invest in growth, operational excellence, and innovation.

This is more than a traditional Finance Business Partner role. We are looking for someone who is passionate about business, enjoys solving complex problems, and wants to make a tangible impact on an organization's success. You'll sit at the intersection of Finance and Operations, partnering directly with senior leadership to influence strategic decisions, improve profitability, and help shape the company's next phase of growth.

This position is ideal for someone coming from a consulting environment - whether in accounting, corporate finance, advisory, management consulting, or legal services - who is looking to move into an operational leadership role where they can see the long-term impact of their recommendations.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CFO and to the CEO, the Finance Business Partner will act as a trusted advisor to operational and executive leadership, providing financial insights that drive strategic decision-making and business performance.

Beyond financial analysis, you will challenge assumptions, identify opportunities, improve processes, and help leaders make better commercial decisions. You'll work across departments, gaining deep exposure to the business while contributing to major initiatives, operational improvements, and long-term planning.

This is a highly visible role with significant exposure to senior leadership and excellent opportunities for professional growth.

What You'll Own

  • Partner with senior leaders to support strategic and operational decision-making
  • Analyze financial and operational performance, identifying trends, risks, and growth opportunities
  • Develop financial models, business cases, investment analyses, and profitability assessments
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and scenario analysis
  • Provide actionable recommendations that improve margins, efficiency, and overall business performance
  • Participate in strategic initiatives including acquisitions, expansion projects, pricing strategies, and operational optimization
  • Challenge business assumptions through data-driven analysis while serving as a trusted advisor to stakeholders
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics that provide meaningful insights to leadership
  • Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Sales, HR, Legal, and other departments on cross-functional projects
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and decision-making tools
  • Present financial analyses and recommendations to executive leadership with confidence and clarity
  • Contribute to building a high-performance, collaborative, and continuously improving finance function

What You Bring

  • CPA designation or equivalent
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Finance, FP&A, Corporate Finance, Transaction Services, Advisory, Consulting, or Business Partnering
  • Experience within a consulting, accounting, legal, or professional services firm is considered a strong asset
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and business problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate financial information into practical business recommendations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong commercial mindset and genuine curiosity about how businesses operate
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve quickly
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude and strong sense of ownership
  • Passion for continuous improvement, innovation, and helping organizations grow
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems and Business Intelligence tools are strong assets
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

  • Be a true business partner! Not just a financial analyst
  • Work directly with executive leadership and influence strategic decisions
  • Join a financially strong, well-established company with exciting growth ambitions
  • Enjoy broad exposure across multiple business functions and strategic initiatives
  • Opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the organization
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial culture where ideas are welcomed and contributions are recognized
  • Competitive compensation package
  • Comprehensive group benefits
  • Retirement savings program with employer contribution
  • Flexible work environment focused on trust, accountability, and professional development

Apply in Confidence

If you're looking to transition from consulting into industry or if you're already a Finance Business Partner seeking greater impact, this is an exceptional opportunity to help shape the future of a growing organization while working alongside an experienced leadership team.
