Job Description

The Senior Noticiero Writer is responsible for writing and producing daily scripts for live newscasts, recorded programs, breaking news coverage, and special events. This role requires a strong editorial background, excellent news judgment, and the ability to copy edit correspondents’ scripts to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with the network’s editorial standards.

The Senior Noticiero Writer reports to the Senior Manager of News Writing and serves as the lead writer in the manager's absence. In this capacity, the Senior Noticiero Writer provides guidance and direction to the writing team, helps coordinate daily workflow, and ensures the timely delivery of editorial content.

The senior writer works with producers, reporters, and assignment editors to develop compelling and accurate content across all platforms. The ideal candidate stays informed on national and international news, has a deep understanding of current events, and can perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The candidate must have experience creating content for multiple platforms, including broadcast, streaming, and digital.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists producers in all writing of the daily newscasts including copy editing reporters’ scripts.
  • Writes stories as assigned by producers, including news briefs, readers, voice-overs, vo/sots, and anchor packages
  • Applies solid news judgment that works along with the editorial line of the network.
  • Writes and copy edits banners and graphics for the broadcast.
  • Translates soundbites, statements, and texts from English to Spanish
  • Assists producers and reporters with editorial and grammatical questions.
  • Must have vast knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Identifies and utilizes best video and sound bites for the stories assigned
  • Works under the direct supervision of the managing and show producer.
  • Writer is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, dead-line driven environment.
  • Available to work weekends, early mornings, nights and holidays.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of news writing experience
  • Must be fully fluent in English and Spanish (both written and verbal)
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience with iNews
