Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding crew call times, schedulingLearning about entry-level roles in film

Film Crew Call refers to the scheduled time when crew members are expected to arrive on set for filming, often involving specific roles like lighting, camera, or sound. Film Production Assistants are entry-level staff supporting various departments, handling tasks like equipment setup, crowd control, or errands. While both roles are essential on set, Crew Call focuses on timing and scheduling for crew members, whereas PAs provide general support. Understanding these differences helps job seekers and industry professionals navigate film production roles effectively.

What is a Film Crew Call?

A Film Crew Call is a scheduled request for all or specific members of a film crew to report to a set location at a particular time for production work. It is essentially a notice outlining when and where crew members need to be present to begin their assigned tasks on a film or television shoot. The call sheet, which includes the crew call, is distributed in advance and details the day's schedule, locations, and contact information. Being on time for a crew call is essential for the smooth operation of the production. Missing a crew call can delay filming and affect the entire production schedule.

What are some common challenges faced by film crew members during a production, and how can they be addressed?

Film crew members often work long hours under tight deadlines, which can lead to fatigue and stress. Adapting quickly to last-minute changes in shooting schedules, weather conditions, or equipment issues is frequently required. Effective communication and teamwork are essential to navigate these challenges successfully. Crew members benefit from staying organized, maintaining a positive attitude, and being flexible to ensure the production runs smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Film Crew member, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Film Crew member, you need a solid understanding of film production processes, attention to detail, and relevant experience or vocational training in your specific crew role (such as camera, lighting, or sound). Familiarity with industry-standard equipment, safety protocols, and production scheduling tools is typically required. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating in dynamic and sometimes high-pressure environments. These skills ensure smooth production workflows, creative problem-solving, and successful execution of a director's vision.

Job description

Taylor Corporation is a dynamic, diversified company with big plans for the future - and your career. We power our employees' potential and strive to create opportunity and security for every member of the team. If you're ready for something bigger - more challenge, more variety, more pathways for professional growth - we should talk. We're passionate about our work, we believe there is always a better way, and we're looking for people like you.
Ready to reach your potential? It's time to look at Taylor.
Your Opportunity: OTHRWRLD, a subsidiary of Taylor, is an award-winning creative production studio producing high-impact music video, fashion, beauty, and entertainment content, branded documentary storytelling, and original film. We partner with artists, brands, agencies, and cultural institutions to create visually ambitious work rooted in real human stories.

We're growing - and we're looking for a hybrid Studio Manager / Junior Production Coordinator to work directly alongside our EP and production team across studio operations and production. A dual-function position sitting at the intersection of studio operations and production support. You'll keep the studio running while getting hands-on experience across the full production cycle. The balance shifts week to week - some weeks are operations-heavy, others involve full shoot days.

Work Authorization: To be considered for the Taylor opportunities, candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

Your Responsibilities:

As a Studio Manager:

  • Own day-to-day studio operations: scheduling, supplies, vendor relationships, equipment tracking
  • Manage inbound project inquiries and maintain the studio calendar
  • Coordinate with talent, freelancers, and external creatives on logistics
  • Keep internal systems (files, drives, templates, contacts) organized and current
  • Support invoicing, purchase orders, and basic production accounting

As a Jr. Production Coordinator:

  • Assist Producers and EPs on active music video and editorial productions
  • Build and maintain call sheets, crew lists, and production schedules
  • Track deliverables and deadlines across concurrent projects
  • Liaise between departments (creative, post, talent management) to keep communication clean
  • Research locations, vendors, and casting options as needed
  • Collect, compile, and organize all production receipts, invoices, and expense documentation throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and process subcontractor agreements, deal memos, and crew contracts
  • Manage job wraps end-to-end: final cost reports, closing POs, ensuring all paperwork is accounted for and filed
  • Maintain organized production drives with clearly structured folders for each project - contracts, budgets, receipts, deliverables

Skills You'll Bring:

  • 1-3 years in a production, studio, or creative agency environment

  • Fluent in Google Workspace, Frame.io, and project management tools (Notion, Airtable, etc.)

  • Calm under pressure, detail-obsessed, and not precious about wearing multiple hats

  • Familiar with the music video / commercial production world - you know what a one-liner is

  • Strong written communication - able to draft professional correspondence and contracts

  • NYC-based and available for on-set days when needed

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $68,000-$70,000. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The range listed is just one component of Taylor Corporation's total compensation and benefits package for employees.
