Job description

SAIC is seeking an experienced UX Designer to support a mission-critical modernization program delivering a modular, adaptable software suite of essential capabilities across multiple warfighting functions. In this role, you will serve as the creative and technical authority responsible for designing intuitive, mission-effective user experiences that bridge the gap between complex operational requirements and accessible, high-performance software interfaces.
This position operates across cloud and tactical edge environments, supporting UX design, prototyping, and validation across the full software development lifecycle - from initial concept through fielding - in both garrison and deployed settings, including Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, and Low Bandwidth (DDIL) environments.
The work is to be performed at the customer site at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.
This role is contingent upon award news in Fall 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver end-to-end user experience solutions including wireframes, prototypes, interaction models, and high-fidelity design specifications that address complex operational workflows across cloud and tactical edge environments
  • Translate user research findings, operational requirements, and mission context into intuitive interface designs that optimize task performance, reduce cognitive load, and minimize training requirements for operational end-users
  • Serve as the primary design authority, collaborating with UX researchers, requirements analysts, and development teams to ensure Human System Integration (HSI) principles and UI/UX best practices are embedded throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Evaluate and validate platform usability including navigation, workflow efficiency, data visualization, symbology rendering, and overall user experience against operational requirements and end-user needs across multiple security domains
  • Support design and validation of tactical edge interface configurations, ensuring UX solutions account for operations in DDIL environments including degraded connectivity, constrained hardware, and high-stress operational contexts
  • Participate in product demonstrations, design reviews, and agile development cycles, providing rapid design iteration and user-centered assessment of solution compliance and operational utility
  • Collaborate with vendors, partners, field researchers, and Government stakeholders to ensure design solutions are grounded in validated user research, accurately communicated, and translated into verifiable interface requirements

Qualifications
Required Clearance:
  • Active Secret clearance required
  • TS/SCI Preferred

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Cognitive Science, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Or Master's Degree preferred in UX Design, Human Factors, Cognitive Engineering, or a related technical or behavioral science field

Required Experience:
  • Eight (8+) years of progressive experience in UX design, interaction design, or a closely related field, with a minimum of three (3) years supporting defense, military, or interagency programs at the operational or acquisition level
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering end-to-end UX solutions across complex, multi-platform environments, with proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or equivalent platforms, and familiarity with design system development and management
  • Experience working within agile development frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban, with the ability to deliver rapid, iterative design solutions aligned to sprint cycles and development timelines
  • Familiarity with Human System Integration (HSI) standards, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and the unique usability demands of classified and operationally constrained network environments
  • Experience designing for cloud-based and tactical edge platforms, including the ability to create and validate interface solutions that perform effectively under DDIL conditions and constrained hardware environments
  • Background in data visualization, military symbology, and operational workflow design with familiarity in targeting, collection management, and complex analytical tool interfaces
  • Demonstrated ability to present design solutions, facilitate design workshops, and influence senior military, civilian, and interagency stakeholders while driving consensus across design, technical, and operational teams in fast-paced, dynamic environments
