How much do fifo labour jobs pay per hour?

As of Sep 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for fifo labour in the United States is $18.09, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.87 and $19.47 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a FIFO labour?

FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) labour jobs are positions where employees are flown to remote work sites, such as mines or construction projects, for a set period before returning home for a break. Workers typically follow a roster, such as two weeks on and one week off, and accommodation and meals are often provided during their stay. These jobs are common in industries like mining, oil and gas, and construction, especially in regions where the job site is too far for daily commuting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a FIFO labourer?

To thrive as a FIFO Labourer, you need physical fitness, basic construction or mining knowledge, and often a White Card or similar site safety certification. Familiarity with tools, machinery, and safety systems like PPE and site reporting software is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and reliability are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualifications are vital to ensure efficient, safe work in remote and demanding FIFO environments.

What are some common challenges faced by FIFO labour workers and how can they be managed?

FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) Labour workers often face challenges such as extended periods away from home, adapting to shift work schedules, and maintaining work-life balance. The remote work environment can also contribute to feelings of isolation or fatigue. To manage these challenges, many companies offer support services, structured rosters with scheduled breaks, and encourage strong communication among team members. Building a routine and staying connected with loved ones can also help workers maintain their well-being while on site.
