About the Field Service & Support Technician Position

AVID maintains a reputation for customer service excellence though rapid response, deep technical and industry knowledge, and post-sale support. As a prominent customer-facing member of the Field Service team, you will travel to customer sites throughout the United States and Canada to provide in-plant services on AVID Corporation equipment.


The Field Service Technician is a skilled technical role involving ~70% travel away from home in a typical month. While at the customers' site, you will calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, installation, and provide maintenance to AVIDโ€™s line of testing and measurement equipment. As necessary, you may also provide onsite customer support in the form of customer training and individual system program setup.


While in the AVID office, you will provide remote phone and computer support to customers, and plan upcoming service visits. Additionally, you will assist the new system delivery team with instrument qualification & troubleshoot. AVID places high value on a healthy work-life balance, and does not require travel on weekends. 


Responsibilities

Following a 2-to-3-month orientation and training phase, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Traveling to customer sites primarily in North America to provide scheduled and emergency services including: maintenance, calibration, repair, troubleshoot, training, and repair services at customer facilities.
  • Troubleshooting & resolving customer questions and technical support issues via calls, emails, and field work.
  • Contacting and coordinating service visits with customers and AVID support management, and making necessary personal travel arrangements.
  • Assisting with in-house production, setup, testing, and qualification of new instruments.
  • Repairing / testing customer equipment and subcomponents returned for service.


Requirements

Successful candidates will possess critical/analytical thinking skills, a history of solving complex technical problems, and the ability to learn and apply new skills. The candidate must be self-starting, self-motivated, composed and adaptable to change. Service technicians work with minimal supervision in the field, and are expected to demonstrate initiative and professionalism.

  • Applicant must be willing to relocate to the greater Portsmouth, NH area for consideration.
  • Applicant must be willing to travel (by air) and be away from home frequently.
  • Applicant must authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Education: Associate's or Bachelorโ€™s degree, but relevant technical experience or training will also be considered.
  • US Passport, or the ability to acquire a US Passport (some international travel is expected in this role).
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Strong electrical/mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and MS Windows OS.
  • English language fluency (verbal and written) is required for this position.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent time and schedule management.

Preferences

The ideal candidate will also have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Prior experience in a role working with AVID Corporation equipment a significant plus!
  • Prior experience in a technical support role requiring frequent personal travel and arranging air travel.
  • Prior experience in a role maintaining/repairing lab equipment or similar instrumentation.
  • Prior experience in an electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting or assembly role.


Physical Requirements

  • The following physical demands are representative of those that are typical of the primary functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, kneel, squat, bend, twist, crawl, and walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk; or hear. The employee must have range of motion in order to operate hand tools, e.g., ratchets, wrenches, screwdriver, hand-held power tools. The employee must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent travel via aircraft, shuttle buses, and rental cars with 50+ pounds of tools, equipment, and personal belongings is routine.
