Field Services Technician

Salary Grade

Classified / Grade 14
$20.42 -  $28.27 per hour

Employment Status    

Full-time Regular / Non-exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This work involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains and service lines.  Work includes installing, repairing, or replacing broken water mains and service lines; tapping water mains; boring under concrete and asphalt surfaces to install service lines; cutting and removing asphalt and concrete; restoring work sites; installing and repairing fire hydrants; and flushing the water system. The position also involves contact with customers to assist with maintaining water service and resolving complaints. Assignments are received orally from a Crew Leader or Supervisor, and work is reviewed in progress and upon completion.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required.   Ability to speak, read, and write English.  Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.  Must be able to serve on-call and be available for after-hours callouts. Must be able to respond within 30 minutes of the main office in Alabaster, Alabama. Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred. ADEM Grade I or II Certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Activities

Frequent sitting, using hands, talking, and hearing; occasional standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, and kneeling. Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and stoop for prolonged periods.

Lifting

Up to 50 pounds.

Vision

Ability to read information in print and electronically.
