Field Service Engineer

Location: Minneapolis/St Paul, MN

Job ID: 179 | # of Openings: 1 | Job Status: Full Time | Travel Required: 50% | Reports To: Field Engineering Mgr.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for field engineering support of all PFI products within the assigned territory, including technical product performance issues (SAR’s), product applications, and gathering technical data to quote and sell PFI‑Global products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Respond to customer needs within assigned territory and/or product range, focusing on Food Grade Industrial Equipment and Industrial Conveyor products.
  • Provide technical phone support for the customer service group.
  • Travel domestic and some international 50% of the time and drive/fly for extended periods.
  • Survey sites, provide technical product information, train, solve problems, and perform applications engineering.
  • Communicate with Product Engineering and Project Management Teams to ensure high level of customer service.
  • Maintain labor reporting (FASF’s & FSTS’s) for billed field services.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and guidelines as specified by PFI and visited facilities.
  • Use computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD, video conferencing, e‑mail) proficiently.
  • Maintain a strong work ethic, positive attitude, trustworthiness, and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Adjust work hours as required by customer demands, maintaining regular attendance.
  • Analyze, inspect, recommend product rework, refurbishment, or modification, including reporting when required.
  • Perform additional assignments and training duties as needed.
  • Potentially lead a team responsible for life‑cycle management of PFI products at customer sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software.
  • MIG & TIG welding skills and ability to operate small power tools.
  • Excellent time‑management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform in a high‑paced, sometimes stressed environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Consistent, dependable attendance.
EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Two‑year Industrial Technology degree with 2–3 years related experience or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Millwright apprenticeship or related experience.
TRAINING – CERTIFICATIONS – LICENSES
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid passport or ability to obtain one at PFI expense.
  • Participation in additional job‑related training.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
  • Keyboard noise typically moderate.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme temperatures, vibration, and electrical shock risk.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts; required to wear steel‑toe safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, colored vest at field sites.
