Now Hiring: Field Service Electrician - Houston, TX
(Electrician Technician | Engine Controls | Power Generation | Caterpillar Equipment)
Mustang Cat, the authorized Caterpillar® dealer for Southeast Texas, is hiring a highly skilled Field Service Electrician to join our elite Power Systems Division in Houston, Texas. In this critical role, you'll travel to customer sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar power generation equipment, including diesel and gas engines, switchgear, and complex electrical systems.
What You'll Do as a Field Service Electrician:
As a Field Service Electrician, you will troubleshoot and repair CAT engine controls, electrical systems, and power generation equipment at customer locations. Key responsibilities include:
  • Troubleshoot and repair engines, generators, controls, switchgear, and wiring
  • Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and point-to-point drawings
  • Install Class 1 Div 2 conduit and wiring, including enclosure lighting panels
  • Perform Load Bank testing and work with Low, Medium, and High Voltage systems
  • Fabricate and install engine harnesses and solder wire connections
  • Install and wire generators, switchgear, controls, conversions, and related components
  • Generate detailed field service reports for customer documentation
  • Provide exceptional customer service while on job sites
  • Other field-related electrical duties as required

Position Requirements:
  • Must own proper tools to perform all necessary field repairs
  • Associate's degree or certificate from a technical school preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience troubleshooting engine controls and wiring
  • C175 engine experience a plus
  • CAT Switchgear experience a plus
  • Proficient with AC/DC circuits, schematics, and general mechanical systems
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely
  • Strong understanding of Caterpillar generators, switchgear, and load bank operations
  • Field service experience with diesel engines, gas compression, and PLC/HMI systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in the field

Preferred Experience:
  • CAT switchgear certification and CAT training
  • Prior military mechanic experience is a plus
