Job description

Position Summary / General Scope:

The Clinical Field Supervisor is a Paramedic that also serves as a critical operational leader, acting as liaison and providing support in the day-to-day field operations. Responsibilities include staffing, scheduling, ensuring maintenance of equipment and supplies, internal communications, budgetary considerations, outside agency interfacing and community relations. This role functions as both a supervisor and active Paramedic, ensuring efficient system performance, real-time decision-making, and effective coordination of resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor employees conduct and performance (in evaluations if applicable) and provide counsel with the goal of developing a team-oriented approach with positive results.
  • Identify policy violations, initiate and issue disciplinary actions to identified staff with the goal of re-educating, supporting and promoting the staff’s improvement in the areas needed.
  • Provide coaching, lead by example, utilize opportunities for teaching and/or evaluation for staff on multi-casualty incidents with the goal of reviewing each call for continuous improvement and compliance with existing policies.
  • Assist in driving, supporting and improving performance management
  • Remain accessible and as a resource at all times.
  • Ensure that all field personnel maintain and carry all state required certifications, licensure and documentation at all times.
  • Consistently perform all duties of an EMT/Paramedic with high level of proficiency
  • Obtain coverage for open shifts with appropriate employee assignments or by filling as needed.
  • Investigate incidents involving assigned units and communicate with the Operations Manager on status of assigned units and other identified concerns.
  • Assess daily staffing and equipment needs; assign replacements, and schedule service as necessary.
  • Participate in interviewing and selection process if applicable and as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate unit development and staffing in emergency situations and respond to the scene of mass casualty or unusual medical incidents as needed.
  • Assist with employee schedules and review for call outs, updating as necessary for payroll verification.
  • Respond to employee injuries, accidents and exposures upon notification, provide support, assist employees in completing reports of the incidents and in obtaining care as needed.
  • Complete and submit supervisory reports regarding employee incidents, accidents and injuries, ensuring proper reporting and review is completed.
  • Inspect all assigned stations, vehicles and equipment for cleanliness and Division maintenance
  • Attend external and internal meetings as necessary/required
  • Comply with all employment laws and support affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity goals
  • Ensure accurate, real-time documentation is completed as required
  • Perform active dispatch duties as needed
  • Support training and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
  • Must maintain a reliable attendance record
  • Completes other duties as requested and assigned

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor degree or higher preferred

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Current Massachusetts Paramedic Certification
  • National Registry Paramedic Certification
  • Current CPR and ACLS Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Paramedic in Massachusetts
  • Supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Experience with CAD systems required
  • Strong proficiency with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills both verbally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Advanced computer proficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to gather and interpret data in various situations and settings.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion while working in a stressful environment
  • Consistently demonstrates solution based and ethical decision making.
  • Leadership and team support ability. Leading by example at all times.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and multi-task
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team setting

Requirements:

  • Ability to function in a dual supervisory / Paramedic role
  • Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.
  • Comply with UDS drug screening at any and all times
  • Verification and maintenance of acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.
  • Maintains satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.

Physical, Mental and Sensory Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met and maintained by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The position requires significant physical strength, dexterity and the ability to function in very adverse environments.

This job requires:

  • Ability to lift and maneuver 125+ pounds with assistance and without difficulty
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs repeatedly and the ability to lift and carry 125+ pounds up and down stairs
  • Ability to sit, stand or kneel for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk without difficulty and without affecting the immediate performance of job-related duties.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and crawl as necessary
  • Ability to occasionally work in low light and confined spaces
  • Ability to work within a mobile environment.

This job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry conditions. The employee is frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
