What is a field manager canvasser?

Field Manager Canvassers are professionals responsible for overseeing teams of canvassers who go door-to-door or engage the public in specific areas to promote causes, gather information, or support campaigns. They coordinate daily field activities, train canvassers, track progress toward goals, and ensure that canvassing operations run smoothly and efficiently. Field Manager Canvassers also handle logistics, resolve issues in the field, and report results to higher management. Their role is crucial in grassroots campaigns, political initiatives, and nonprofit outreach efforts.

How does a field manager canvasser typically coordinate and motivate their team during large-scale outreach campaigns?

A Field Manager Canvasser often leads a team of canvassers by scheduling shifts, setting daily goals, and providing on-the-ground support to ensure outreach objectives are met. They conduct regular check-ins, offer coaching to improve communication techniques, and use data tracking tools to monitor progress. The role requires adaptability, as managers must quickly address logistical challenges, maintain team morale, and foster a collaborative environment, especially during high-pressure or time-sensitive campaigns. Successful Field Managers balance strategic planning with hands-on leadership, helping team members stay engaged and productive.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a field manager canvasser, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Field Manager Canvasser, you need strong organizational and leadership abilities, experience in canvassing or grassroots campaigns, and often a background in political science or communications. Familiarity with canvassing management software, data tracking tools, and mobile communication systems is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, motivational ability, and adaptability help you lead teams and engage the public effectively. These competencies ensure efficient team coordination, accurate data collection, and successful outreach efforts in dynamic field environments.

Job description

Want to stand against Trump’s harmful agenda?

Want to make an impact during a critical moment for Maine and our country?

Join the MPA door-to-door canvass team!

WHO IS MPA?

Maine People’s Alliance (MPA) is a grassroots organization whose mission is to create a world where everyone has what they need, contributes what they can, and no one is left behind. By forming a community with people from all walks of life, we build power, inspire new leaders, heal divisions—particularly across lines of race—and win campaigns that change what is politically possible.

Why is door-to-door canvassing so important?

Field Organizers canvass, develop, and engage people where they are: at their door, in their community. They are often the first introduction people have to our organization. The Field Team's operations motivate and empower both new and current members to become more involved in creating political change in our communities - together.

MPA is currently hiring FT canvassers to work May through Election Day!

This year, MPA will have thousands of conversations in our communities about the issues that matter most to Mainers. If you want to make a difference, we want you on our team!

Interested? Are you:

  • Inspired to help others?
  • Committed to fighting for racial, gender, and economic justice?
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team?
  • Effective at communicating, problem solving, and active listening?

MPA is hiring for multiple limited-term positions, with the opportunity to join permanent
staff. Employment begins in early May and runs through Election Day in November.

  • Shifts 2:00pm -10:00pm Monday – Friday
  • Bonuses and paid time off, with potential for advancement (and you will be part of a UNION!)
  • Positions based in Bangor and Portland
  • MPA is an Equal Opportunity Employer
