What is a field manager canvasser?

Field Manager Canvassers are professionals responsible for overseeing teams of canvassers who go door-to-door or engage the public in specific areas to promote causes, gather information, or support campaigns. They coordinate daily field activities, train canvassers, track progress toward goals, and ensure that canvassing operations run smoothly and efficiently. Field Manager Canvassers also handle logistics, resolve issues in the field, and report results to higher management. Their role is crucial in grassroots campaigns, political initiatives, and nonprofit outreach efforts.

How does a field manager canvasser typically coordinate and motivate their team during large-scale outreach campaigns?

A Field Manager Canvasser often leads a team of canvassers by scheduling shifts, setting daily goals, and providing on-the-ground support to ensure outreach objectives are met. Job description

All on the Field (AOTF) runs paid canvassing and non-partisan voter engagement programs across multiple states. We are hiring Regional Field Managers to run turf-level operations inside those programs.

Each Regional Field Managers owns a defined area within a state program, a team of 10-plus canvassers and their team leads, and a volunteer base recruited locally. The Regional Field Manager is responsible for managing the paid and volunteer sides of the program together. The position is designed to operate with limited day-to-day supervision: the organizer sets the weekly plan for the area against program goals and makes daily decisions on turf and staffing. These are in-state positions; relocation is required. We operate in several states, and placement depends on the program.

The program is non-partisan. Voter conversations cover registration, voting rules and deadlines, and turnout. Canvassers and volunteers do not advocate for or against any candidate or party.

Responsibilities
  • Run day-to-day field operations for an area of 10+ canvassers and their team leads
  • Recruit, train, and manage canvassers; develop team leads within your area
  • Recruit volunteers through community organizations, faith institutions, colleges, and local networks
  • Run volunteer orientations, schedule volunteer shifts, and maintain volunteer participation over the course of the program
  • Set the weekly plan for your area against program goals and adjust turf and staffing as conditions change
  • Own your area's piece of the state staffing plan: set canvasser schedules, cover open turf, and verify canvasser hours daily
  • Enforce data quality and field integrity standards in your area, including spot-checks and fraud prevention
  • Maintain non-partisan message discipline among canvassers and volunteers, including retraining as needed
  • Hold daily and weekly production goals; track performance and course-correct in-day
  • Maintain relationships with local organizations that support volunteer recruitment and turf access
  • Coordinate with the operations team on recruitment pipeline and supply logistics for your area
  • Report area numbers to the State Field Director on a daily cadence
  • Other duties as the program requires
Qualifications
  • 1+ cycles of field experience
  • Experience managing a field team; experience recruiting and managing volunteers preferred
  • Track record of meeting metric-driven goals on deadline
  • Able to manage an area independently and set priorities with limited direction
  • Proficient with VAN/Votebuilder and standard field tools
  • Familiar with non-partisan voter engagement standards and how they differ from candidate campaign work
  • Composed and decisive under the pressure of a live program
  • Willing to relocate; valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
The Details
  • Salary: $5,500 - $6,500 per month
  • Health insurance
  • This position will be based in Georgia and will require in-person presence. Candidate must be in, or willing to relocate, to the area.
  • Schedule: Full-time. Because you are directing field and volunteer teams that work evenings and weekends, your hours will track the program and regularly fall outside a standard workday.
  • Term: Position runs through November 2026
  • Reports to: State Field Director
