FIELD TESTING ASSOCIATE: TEST BUILDING HEALTH (Travel Required)

CETEC Foray, LLC

Oakland, CA • On-site

Full-time

Posted 18 days ago

Job description

DO YOU HAVE A SCIENCE DEGREE AND WOULD LIKE TO TRAVEL INTERNATIONALLY?

APPLY YOUR STEM EDUCATION.

CETEC is an international scientific consultancy focused on optimizing occupant health, wellbeing, and performance and with an unparalleled record across 32+ years and 25 countries. Headquartered in Australia, CETEC has six offices around the world, including London, Melbourne, and Sydney.

As it expands its presence in the U.S., CETEC is seeking logical, thorough, and curious individuals to join its environmental testing team.

While the U.S. hub is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, this role can be fulfilled from several U.S. metropolitan locations as long as the candidate is willing and able to travel and is located close to an airport.

Full-time employment is needed. Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience.

You will conduct and report on, to the highest level of quality, a range of field testing and sampling on the environmental impact of a potential source of pollutants primarily but not limited to factors affecting Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ). It may also include pollutants in water and air.

You will be expected to use and care for equipment such as air sampling monitors, sound level and light meters, water pumps and sampling kits, to analyze and test specific areas for pollution sources. You will be responsible for the equipment in your care for this work.

You will be increasingly responsible for data analysis and development, on the basis of the findings, of recommendations as these also form key parts of our work. You will be expected to prepare and present reports of the findings to staff and clients. You may also contribute to designing and implementing programs to monitor and assess environmental hazards and pollution.

- Demonstrated ability to communicate up and down the accountability chain, raising and resolving challenges, and advocating for top-quality outcomes for the client.

- Proficiency in writing clear and concise reports, preferably on fieldwork, and preferably with samples available for review.

- Eligible to work in the United States and prepared to travel anywhere within the United States and possibly within the Americas more broadly. Most trips will not exceed 3 nights.

- You will be enabled to work how you work best, with the flexibility to work from co-working spaces or from home, but you will be expected to spend time at the San Francisco hub when required.

Direct responsibilities (training will be provided as needed):

Fieldwork:

· Understand the scope of works to be conducted.

· Liaise with client(s) to organize site visit time and access requirements.

· Competently source, prepare, use, and maintain all equipment required for fieldwork.

· Be on-time and prepared for all scheduled site-work.

· Collect all samples and record measurements as per the scope of works.

· Observe, photograph, and record site conditions as per internal guidelines.

· Gather information (from the client or from the site) to enable problems to be diagnosed and addressed, and escalate – in real-time – any questions or site issues.

Reporting:

· Accurately record the aim(s), objectives, and methodology of the project.

· Transcribe site observations, measurements, and results.

· Conduct quality control checks on all data entered.

· Complete all job registers accurately.

· Log all samples accurately within the Foray Sample Register and send, when required, to the appropriate lab for analysis on time.

· Complete and escalate your draft report allowing sufficient time for review by a senior/principal within CETEC.

· Adhere to OH&S legislation at all times:

- Be familiar with your responsibilities;

- Ensure the safety of yourself and others at all times; and

- Report any OH&S issues to your manager immediately upon occurrence.

Broader responsibilities:

In addition to the direct responsibilities of your role, you will be expected to become an efficient and valuable member of the broader CETEC team. This is especially important in light of the uncertainties around the speed of economic recovery.

· Undertake – to the best of your ability and ensuring that your skillset is ever-expanding – any projects assigned by senior staff.

· Ask for additional tasks whenever your direct responsibilities do not consume your time. Similarly, you will be expected to proactively ask for help if you have too much on your plate, helping ensure that the output to the client is not compromised.

· Proactively identify opportunities to contribute.

· Connect with your manager in a way that enables transparency, accountability, on-the-job training, and real-time support.

· Attend required meetings with the broader team (1-3 hrs. most weeks).

· Submit timesheets and expenses accurately and on time.

· Maintain a neat, tidy, and professional appearance at all times.

· Carry out all duties and represent CETEC in a positive professional manner at all times.

· Adhere to internal guidelines and rules at all times.

· Even as we evolve our internal systems, use them as intended and in accordance with guidelines.

· Treat all staff, clients, sub-contractors, and broader colleagues in accordance with CETEC’s anti-discrimination policies and report any observed non-compliant behavior.

While CETEC’s work is not limited to WELL Performance Verifications, the WELL rating system captures much of the scope involved (and CETEC happens to be the most prolific WELL performance testing organization globally).

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree welcomed) in in a STEM field of study related to one or more of the following specialties: Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Building Operations and Facilities Management.

- LEED and WELL Accredited Professional designation desired.

- Field experience preferred for San Francisco, and required for all other locations.

- Exceptional attention and commitment to methodology, esp. when collecting and processing samples on-site.

- Demonstrated motivation and time-management as well as project management skills, as you will usually be assigned projects to complete largely on your own, with support always on stand-by usually not stepping in unless requested.

CETEC is an equal opportunities employer and all qualified candidates should feel encouraged to apply.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

For CETEC, KPIs are a way to access collaborative achievement. In other words, it’s a two-way street where together we are better when each member of the team is both motivated and enabled to continually excel. As such, you will be expected to indicate the support you need in order to meet stretch KPIs agreed with you in advance, with specific and achievable targets monitored each quarter. Field Associate’s KPIs are likely to cover the following areas of performance:

· Accuracy of samples taken and results recorded and report.

· Adherence to internal protocols for fieldwork, reporting, and analysis.

· Proactive support to CETEC’s ISO and other compliance, incl. but not limited to the proactive flagging of issues.

· Timeliness (and punctuality) in fieldwork, reporting, and all scheduled meetings.

· Effectiveness, proactiveness, and clarity of internal communications and reporting.

· Professionalism displayed when attending site and/or meeting clients.

· Overall curiosity and rate of learning.

· Attention to detail and critical thinking.

· Overall contribution to projects to the greatest degree of quality, on time, and on budget.

· Positive client feedback.
