Job Description:
Job Overview
This opening is for an Assembly Operator V, using advanced skills to work directly with fiber optics. This person will be a key member of our team and will be responsible for optical connector and cable assembly, termination of various configurations of fiber optic cable assemblies, test station set up for various cable assemblies, advanced testing of cable assemblies, and will assist training new and existing employees. This individual will assist in process development and resolution of problems encountered in the process of bringing new optical products from concept to market. The position is expected to provide continuous improvement suggestions for the simplification of new products to reduce costs and increase overall manufacturing efficiency. The individual is to be a self-starter and have the ability to work well under schedule pressures and be able to balance workload as priorities change. Candidates need to have a strong work ethic with a desire to continually learn & with a concentrated focus on serving the Customer. The ideal candidate works well in teams, has the desire to learn, possesses strong hand-eye coordination, and maintains the attention to detail needed to make quality products for our customers. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area, following safety guidelines and all TE Connectivity's policies and procedures.
This position offers a relocation stipend of $2,200. Bonus and retention award opportunities may be available based on the successful completion of required training milestones and continued good standing.
Shift Hours:
1st: Mon-Thurs, 6am-4:30pm (Arden)
Primary responsibilities include:
• Polish and test fiber optic cables
• Assemble and package fiber optic connector components
• Operate fiber router & complete over-molding process (as needed)
• Support prototype product builds, test product builds, pre-release NPI builds (as needed)
• Measure components using calipers, gages, or other measuring devices
• Complete necessary operational paperwork required to maintain the traceability of product
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment
• Understand and demonstrate cleaning methods and contamination assessment for optical assembly.
• Termination of various standard fiber optic termini as well new termini designs
• Perform EFG & IPC (workmanship) checks on both single & multi-fiber termini
• Safely & efficiently operate equipment (E-Stop/Soft Stop), identify and resolve issues
• Assist engineering with new product launch manufacturing processes
• Identify process changes to improve overall manufacturing efficiencies
• Communicate within a team atmosphere to ensure clarity of purpose & Customer satisfaction
• Proficient in providing high quality, accurate products, in a timely manner according to skills matrix
• Use of Fiber Optic & Electronic Test Equipment: Optical Power Meters, IL/RL Test, Oscilloscope, DMM (Digital Multi Meter), Variable Power Supplies, Variable Attenuators, Optical & RF Switch
• Train new and existing team members on products, process, and procedures.
• Ability to perform and lead advanced assembly process for numerous fiber optic products
• Derive measurements from drawings
• Inspect own work and products using quality standards, work instructions and prints.
• Accountability - takes responsibility for his/her own work. Respects confidential information and concerns shared by others.
• Available to work overtime and off-shifts to support production goals as needed
• Ability to work in a clean room environment wearing all required clean room gowning garments and PPE (gowns, shoe booties, hair nets, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes)
• Drive and implement continuous improvement processes
• Ability to back up team lead as needed
• Serve as a technical escalation point for production and quality concerns
What your background should look like
• The ability to distinguish between color-coded fiber optic cables is an essential function of this position to ensure accurate assembly, installation, and quality standards.
• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience, including 2+ years in fiber optic assembly manufacturing required
• Proficient Dexterity & Motor Skills for intricate/delicate work
• Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading preferred
• Must be able to work with small parts in a clean room environment, using a microscope
• Available to work overtime to support production goals as needed.
• Must have good time management skills to work on numerous projects simultaneously
• Attention to Detail (following bill of material, Routers, and understanding drawings/prints)
• Team Oriented - will work effectively and cohesively with other employees to achieve required objectives and goals.
• Credibility - takes responsibility for his/her own work. Respects confidential information and concerns shared by others.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• A safe and quality conscious attitude and follow safety and quality requirements

• Must be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to remain in stationary position 75% of the time
• Must be able to move between work zones
• Must be proficient and able to understand written instructions in English language

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $33 - $35/HR (subject to change dependent on physical location)
