5-Axis Laser Operator – TRUMPF Fiber Laser

Location: Clinton Township, MI
Job Type: Full-Time
Industry: Prototype & Short-Run Sheet Metal Manufacturing


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced 5-Axis Laser Operator with hands-on TRUMPF fiber laser experience to join our sheet metal manufacturing team in Clinton Township, Michigan.

Our shop specializes in prototype and short-run production, so this position is best suited for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with frequent job changes, tight tolerances, and a wide variety of parts. This is not a high-volume production position. We need an operator who can set up jobs, troubleshoot issues, inspect parts, and confidently work from prints and CAD/CAM documentation.


Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 5-axis TRUMPF fiber laser equipment
  • Produce prototype, low-volume, and short-run sheet metal components
  • Perform machine setups and job changeovers efficiently
  • Load programs and verify machine parameters before production
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T
  • Verify material type, thickness, and job requirements
  • Inspect first-piece and in-process parts to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment
  • Make machine adjustments as necessary to maintain part quality
  • Troubleshoot cutting, setup, and machine-related issues
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized
  • Work closely with programmers, engineering, quality, and other shop personnel
  • Accurately complete job travelers and production documentation
  • Follow all company safety and quality procedures


Qualifications

  • Previous 5-axis laser cutting experience required
  • TRUMPF fiber laser experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in a prototype, job shop, or short-run manufacturing environment preferred
  • Strong blueprint-reading skills
  • Ability to work with tight tolerances and complex fabricated components
  • Experience using standard precision measuring equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to perform setups and changeovers with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working with frequent job changes and varying part quantities
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a team
