Job description

Medical Assistant

Preferred Minimum Qualifications: Post-secondary courses in a medical assistant training program, developing competency in communication and interpersonal skills; basic nursing skills; personal care skills; basic restorative services; and patient rights. Obtain First Aid/CPR training. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability and willingness to take directions. Ability and willingness to meet the needs of students. Excellent references including attendance and punctuality. Valid C.M.A., or R.M.A. Colorado state issued certificate - (Required)

Job Goals: Provide basic health care under the direct supervision of the nurse. Work with students who have various health needs including students with diabetes, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, development delay, Down's syndrome, seizure activity, etc., as well as support the school health office.

Essential Job Functions: Ability to administer first aid and/or CPR to ill or injured students following the guidelines from the State of Colorado. Respond to emergencies in a calm and professional manner. Communicate with the school nurse in a timely manner regarding emergencies. Provide care to students as outlined in the Individualized Health Care Plan. Take vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse, and respiratory rate, recording information as directed by the school nurse. Provide direct care to students, such as assisting with bathing, eating, toileting, dressing, and walking. Turn and reposition wheelchair bound students to prevent breakdown of their skin. Record amount of oral intake and measure urinary output. Collect specimens for tests. Interact with students and family in a courteous and confidential manner. Transport students and equipment as needed. Monitor students and report any variances to normal to the nurse for further assessment. Keep accurate, legal and ethical documentation. Maintains health related records, to include documentation of health room visits and their outcome; documentation of medication administration; reviewing student immunization records, advising the nurse of immunization needs; logging the results of hearing and vision screenings Prepare and administer medication under the supervision of the RN. Administer insulin via pump or injection under nurse supervision. Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms. Maintain supplies and equipment in the health room. Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building and department procedures. Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Tools and Equipment: Wheelchairs, bus lifts, office equipment, audio-visual equipment, occupational/physical therapy equipment, medical equipment. All tools and equipment may not be listed.

Salary: Medical Assistants are on the Special Services Provider Salary Schedule. - FFC8 allows new hires to bring in up to 15 years of previous experience in similar school type settings. - Please understand that new hires tend to start out at the lower end of the salary range.

Salary Schedule Benefits: Fountain-Fort Carson School District # 8 provides medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, life, long-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment insurances, and paid time off benefits. There are district and employee contributions to some or most of these benefits. Employment Period: 191 days per year - 7.5 Hour Work Day
